As i've tried to explain , we get paid 1 week in arrears . The payment on 13th May is for the week ending 6th May.

The payment on 13 May is not just for week ending 6 May, but will also include holiday pay and termination bonus (assuming you hand everything back). So it will be more than just a week's money, and that extra will be more than 1 week's worth of JSA. So I really cannot see this "scam" you're on about.

No i didn't . I've paid rent and Council Tax from 6th April , and will have to pay rent for the week up to 13th May , for which we're not being paid.

As i've tried to explain , we get paid 1 week in arrears . The payment on 13th May is for the week ending 6th May. The job started on 6th April , but we didn't get paid till 15th April. I still had to pay rent and council tax for the period 6th April to 15th April.

People who have done this job as a little part time earner to boost their pensions or as a second job aren't affected by any of this.

Fortunately , my coordinator fully understands the scam being perpetrated even if nobody here does , so any extra work will be allocated to the 37 hour workers who came off JSA to do the job.

My original post was to advise those in the same situation as myself as to what was going on and to help their case to be allocated any extra work that was going. As it appears there aren't any it has been a waste of time.:)

Well if you had been signing on the 6 months you should be entitled to 4 weeks paid rent. I am in the same situation, I signed off for the job, I hoping I can get some agency work before I have to sign back on again.

the scam is we won't be getting a full 37 hours pay for week ending 13th may, but only holiday pay. i think this works out around 20 hours for those on a 37 hour week. so we'll be short 17 hours, but won't be able to sign on.

But we get a completion payment as well, so it will near enough make it up to a full weeks pay.

You'll also get your bonus though, and surely 20 hours of holiday pay works out at more than JSA? I appreciate it would be nice to be able to get JSA on top of this money, but that's a bit like having your cake and eating it.

that is true, but you could argue the completion payment is quite separate, and would have been paid regardless.

i agree the holiday pay is more than the jsa, but that's missing the point. if the contract ended on wednesday (ie after 3 days @ 7 hours a day approx) and we could then sign on thurs then that would have been correct. as it is, there's a 17 hour shortfall.

I'm delighted somebody else appreciates a scam is being perpetrated , but what you say isn't correct. The pay we'll receive on 13th May is for the week up to 6th May. The holiday pay will be based on the aggregate hours worked up till 6th May. This payment isn't an act of generosity on the part of Capita/ONS , its something we're entitled to under the Law which gives temporary workers the same rights as permanent workers.

The holiday pay and the completion payment bonus are payments we've earned for the work we've done up to 6th May. To suggest this money will tide us over for the week 6th May - 13th May is ridiculous. Its a payment we've rightly earned , not a payment to be snatched back in rent & council payments and general living costs for the week 6th May - 13th May for which we receive not a penny.

Em80 , i'd worked in the previous 6 months , and therefore have had to pay rent & council tax since 6th April. And will have to pay it up to 13th May , the week for which we don't get paid.

Regardless of the "scam" you will still be earning more than you would on JSA. As i receive a small military pension I am not entitled to any JSA or any of the other benefits that go with it so I take any and all work that comes my way. I was on standby for a CCS interviewer job and then was told I would be "activated" I was chuffed as tis meant I had 80 hrs work for the following month I duly received and electronically signed the contract. 2 hours later I was called and informed that it was all a big mistake and I was back on standby, during that time I had turned down 20 Hrs work for next week on the basis of that contract.
I don't know how the actual recipient of the job of the role will do the job as I have the briefcase!!!

no, can't agree with you on this. you're getting muddled because it's being tacked on at the end. imagine we had been told to take the 20 hrs paid leave in the middle and worked 20 hrs 9/10/11 may instead. same thing.

but there's the 17 hrs shortfall which i mentioned and we can't sign on JSA for.

I can see the point that you aren't able to work your full contracted hours the week 7th - 13th May and will receive x number of hours as if you have taken your annual leave that week.

However, I still think the 'scam' accusation is unfair. The details of the hours worked and the length and terms of the contract were sent out and had to be agreed to before anyone started work. So if you weren't happy about the terms regarding the final week then presumably you had the option to refuse the contract and not do the job.

(When I say 'you' I am not aiming this at anyone in particular - it is a generic 'you')

I also doubt that this is some great conspiracy to prevent people getting JSA - I doubt DWP has had a hand in setting the terms of the ONS contracts. I would say that it is more likely that this is the easiest way for the Capita/ONS salary system to cope with multiple leavers all needing to have their accrued holiday pay paid in one go.
