No i didn't . I've paid rent and Council Tax from 6th April , and will have to pay rent for the week up to 13th May , for which we're not being paid.

As i've tried to explain , we get paid 1 week in arrears . The payment on 13th May is for the week ending 6th May. The job started on 6th April , but we didn't get paid till 15th April. I still had to pay rent and council tax for the period 6th April to 15th April.

People who have done this job as a little part time earner to boost their pensions or as a second job aren't affected by any of this.

Fortunately , my coordinator fully understands the scam being perpetrated even if nobody here does , so any extra work will be allocated to the 37 hour workers who came off JSA to do the job.

My original post was to advise those in the same situation as myself as to what was going on and to help their case to be allocated any extra work that was going. As it appears there aren't any it has been a waste of time.:)

But depending on how much you actually earn for the week 6th - 13th April you may be able to claim HB and CTB, surely?

However, I still think the 'scam' accusation is unfair.

agreed, on balance i think calling it a scam is a bit ott.

I doubt DWP has had a hand in setting the terms of the ONS contracts.

i don't think it's coincidence that they started on 6 april, the first day of the new tax year!

Forgive me for being a bit dense but what has the fact they started the contracts on 6th April got to do with DWP and claiming JSA?

And what significance does starting contracts on the first day of the tax year have other than that they wouldn't have to update 1.000s of staff details with a new tax code?

Genuinely perplexed so would be interested to know.

None at all . The start date isn't the problem , the end date is.

You can't claim HB and CTB unless you're eligible for JSA , which we aren't because we're officially still under contract to the ONS and therefore unavailable for work.

Jacko , you're right , we did have the option not to accept the terms of the contract. But having done all the elearning etc before we saw the contract , plus the opportunity to sign off from JSA for a few weeks , made the decision a no brainer even though i knew a scam was in operation. Whether the Government was behind the 13th May closing date , or whether it was a typical piece of incompetence on the part of Capita , i don't know.

For anybody who still believes the holiday pay and completion payment compensate for those of us on JSA receiving nothing for the period 6th to 13th May , here's a simple analogy.

Imagine you're a 10 year old and you get £5 a week pocket money off Mom & Dad. One week Granddad comes to visit and gives you £5 , to spend when you go away on holiday. Next week you ask for your £5 pocket money , but Mom & Dad say no , you've got the £5 Granddad gave you.

That , in a nutshell , is the position we are in.

yep, you're quite right, it's nothing to do with the jsa issue.

you've mentioned the significance. it looks like they picked the start date for no other reason than to make life easy for themselves. why else start on a wednesday?

  • Nice how the totally and utterly useless moneysavingexpert.com thread subscription system only advised me of another new post in this thread some four pages of posts after it last did so.

I see that everyone else who Capita screwed around and lied to by telling them they were reserves for the reserves etc clearly never heard from the time wasting leeches again.

Is anyone else thinking of taking their complaint about the job selection process (including the crappy Siftability test that anyone desperate for money could have a competent employed friend complete for them since there are no dire warning messages given about severe penalties for doing someone else's test etc) further to the Civil Service Commission for investigation?
