I don't work for the council but it is they who pay me. Maybe you should do what i did and ask for an application form. It's the Town Clerk's department in my council but could be different in your council. good luck, the money's not bad and I just take a day's flexi to do it.

It may be that local authorities are theoretically allowed to take on other people such as yourself (although why would they unless they were short of staff volunteers given all the hassle involved in doing CRB checks and taking up references for someone who they will employ for just one day a year or less) but in my experience of the areas in which I have been involved in elections the returning station staff and the counting staff have all been employees of the local council running the election.

I am amazed to hear that even in reactionary Essex there are still local authorities with a "Town Clerk's department" as in my experience most local authorities have long since abolished the role of Town Clerk in favour of the more lofty, better paid and more grandiose sounding title of Chief Executive. However the Chief Executive of most local authorities that are also the electoral authority for that area are normally the authority's Chief Returning Officer for the election. Whilst you may not work for a local council that runs the election I think you work in the public sector and perhaps you already hold a position that would enable you to be automatically trusted by the authority without further references needing to be taken up?

I had to turn down the Polling Station work due to working on the Census. Not that i'll miss getting up at 5.30 in the morning to spend 15 hours bored out of my mind catering for about 150 people who bother to vote.

Did you ever do the Count afterwards? and did you bring your own wet sponge thingy??

Again you confirm yourself as a nasty individual who gets off on wielding the knife.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that you work in some dismally boring bureaucratic recruitment role at Capita responsible for creating the ludicrous policies involved in selecting people for the simple job of collecting paper forms from front doors for a few weeks. The only significant ability required for such work is the same as that of a postman combined with the ability to put up with some abuse from some more unreasonable members of the population. So far as I am aware the recruitment of postmen is not based on Siftability like tests.

Since census completion was compulsory and all Capita needed to do was to avoid recruiting people who would verbally or physically abuse the person called on (hence the CRB checks) or deliberately shred or bin hundreds of validly completed census forms it hardly requires the most skilled of employees. You also make implied claims that I was not selected due to lack of ability or intelligence for which you have no basis in fact.

If you set out in a post to deliberately snub someone as you did you can hardly be surprised when they respond in kind.

You have deliberately avoided the fact you said I should encourage other to kill themselves - what kind of sick individual says that?

As to what I do I'm retired.

You are just bitter and twisted you couldn't get this *really easy job* - face facts you didn't get it and you are ranting because others did.

*skivvying for the government * you called it - sour grapes much?

You couldn't even pass the simple tests because as you have said in previous posts. You can though make wild and unpleasant remarks on a forum , oh and be a volunteer for local government elections. Really top level stuff that - must have had some real top flight folk doing that!

I wonder what nonsense you'll come up with in reply?

That would certainly be useful to throw at Jeanette when she makes one of her more cutting and spiteful remarks to one of the other count attendees. Anyhow had Jeanette actually attended a count she would clearly know the counting staff only have rubber finger thimbles to flip through the ballot papers and do not use wet sponge thingies.

    Cutting and spiteful remarks??

oh ? asking why you see fit to belittle someone doing the job you have been wittering about here for the last month?

Or saying I should go to a place on the forum for people with metal illness and encourage them to kill themselves?

which is it ? take your time.

Anyone else just get an email asking if you're interested in a role as a CCS Interviewer?

Yes I did but the areas listed weren't the one I've been collecting from so I'm not interested.

I wouldn't of minded travelling if they helped with the cost.

    Yes.

But in the list of areas where they have vacancies at the bottom of the Email , my area isn't included. :(

Typical of Capita that they don't bother to tell you how long the work will last or what the rates of pay are.

My area isn't included but I would have traveled.

    23/05/11 – 03/06/11 15 hours
    04/06/11 – 10/06/11 0 Non-operational period for holiday allowance

I work for HM Revenue & Customs as a Senior Officer, I'm certain they still did CRB checks though. I think they have changed the name of the Town Clerk actually, i'm just used to calling it that as I've been doing it over twenty years!!
