Census Jobs

Although the recruitment process was a joke (only got final notification of job offer on Sunday the 3rd) the job has been great.
I live in a nice part of Cheshire and cover around 250 addresses (37hrs per week) over quite a large physical area, so wandering the lanes in the sunshine has been very enjoyable, but very tiring as I have not walked this far in years.
The majority of people I have met have been pleasent and helpful and the team members and co-ordinator are great too.
Shame it all ends is a few weeks.0 -
Wow. So many moaners on this thread.
The census has come up, giving many people the opportunity to make good money over a short period of time for very easy work. Those that don't get the jobs say it is a disgrace, others moan that they don't get enough hours/money, while some are complaining about the nature of the responses from householders.
Get over yourselves. Find some better, regular employment if you are not happy. But please stop monaing about anything and everything.
Whilst nice for most, it's not 'very easy' for everyone - have a look through this forum and others for reports of near-assault and wandering through dodgy estates.
And Capita's approach has been substandard for many. Perhaps you should post your own experiences if you're so enamoured of the process and job?0 -
Well I have been "employed" by ONS for almost a week now, on the payroll system etc. Its just nobody has contacted me to do any work!
Contacted the "help" desk several times who say they will investigate, but nothing happens
Will I get paid while waiting for the "phone call", otherwise it will cost ME to do this job very soon, what with childcare etc.:(
If you have a contract you will be paid your contracted hours. Make sure you complete your timesheet online from your start date. If you don't hear from your co-ordinator soon, next time you speak to the helpline insist that they contact the area manager and start making a fuss. It's not your fault you're in this position and you shouldn't have to lose out financially because of the incompetence of others.
Good luck.0 -
I thought we only work for 4 weeks? the 5th week is holiday pay. As far as I know we still get paid for the hours we have been contracted.
well paid weeks goes from:
week 1 - Wednesday 6th April - Friday 8th (where I had to do 16 hours pro rota of my normal 37 hour contract)
week 2 - Saturday 9th - Friday 15th
week 3 - Saturday 16th - Friday 22nd
week 4 - Saturday 23rd - Friday 29th
week 5 - Saturday 30th - Friday 6th May:T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

If you work them. Your contract is flexible enough that you can organise your time well and have a day off. You aren't paid extra for working them though.

Finally started work at the weekend. I've had nearly every response in the book and some funny momments with cats & dogs! The area I've been given is not brilliant but enjoying the weather and getting fit. When it gets nearer to the Royal wedding I'll be watching out for those street parties.....image getting roped in for a conga in your yellow vest...:eek:0

That's what's she's told you. Perhaps it hasn't been sent in, and she doesn't want to discuss it with you. You shouldn't be dealing with people you know...I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Easier said than done, for example, I drink in a pub once a week, and the area I am collecting surrounds said pub. Now I don't know where these people live, I just know them from the pub. I don't see any problem in asking them for their census form, obviously I would only collect one if it were in a sealed envelope. If she didn't want to discuss it with the collector, all she has to do is say that, and the collector could arrange to get someone else to speak to them. Besides, it doesn't sound as though this is the case.0
