Well thought I’d update on my current situation. After the fuss I made last week I finally got my contract on Saturday and even received a telephone call from Capita on the very same day to say that my contract was now available for acceptance online!! But guess what …. nearly a week on and I have had no contact from the area Coordinator.

I’m through with the whole thing, however I shall pursue a complaint as far as I can. The way I have been treated is simply not acceptable and the whole thing is really a national disgrace. Good luck to all those who are working and those who are still struggling to get any sense from this so called company!!

I'm sorry to hear that this profit first, service last excuse of a company has also let you down after what sounded like your more positive news last week.

What really annoys me about them is that given their ludicrously slow and cumbersome recruitment processes the vacancies they advertised for Collectors in Surrey that I applied for on about March 23rd and April 6th were self evidently completely bogus in terms of the length of contract and number of days of employment supposedly on offer. By my calculations the first job could not have seen me employed until about April 21st at best after waiting another two weeks for NonDisclosure Scotland and self evidently with the second Collector vacancy one would not have been appointed in time to undertake any work before the whole Collection process came to an end.

The only crumb of comfort that one can draw is that with the change of government the Capita New Labour Gravy Train will hopefully soon reach the end of the line and that if there are enough complaints to the Civil Service Commission over their behaviour in this exercise the Capita money grabbing train may even be derailed before it reaches its original intended destination.
• Contract now through!... there's hope yet for those still waiting. Going to have a cup of tea to celebrate whilst I wait for my co ordinator to contact me.. more wait & see.

coincidentally my coord received notification of a new collector starting today, even though she'd just had approval for 4 SE's to stay on as collectors. she doesn't actually want the new woman, but was told she had to have her, and is just going to buddy her up with one of the other women.

Just in case this is of any use to anyone...

I'm a Census Enumerator in Edinburgh and I received a text informing me that they are now recruiting for Non-Compliance staff. I assume you can just go straight onto this job even if you are an Enumerator.

It's not Scotland's Census that are dealing with it though - it's Pertemps in Edinburgh.

I guess other areas will get this too so now's the time to ask if you're still looking for extra work...

I'm an Enumerator too and just got a knock back from Pertemps on my CV with no interview....I suspect they are looking for folk with admin experience on their CV and actual Census experience will count for nowt! (Bitter? Me?! Never!)

I actually think that GROS should not have outsourced to Pertemps as I can see it going the way of the fiasco in England with an agency...

Anyone applying in Scotland the closing date is today (Friday 15th)
• As I have mentioned before, I don't think co ord's and/or the area managers realise that there are collectors stuck in the recruitment pipeline......turf wars! lol.
• Well now I find out that even though I accepted the contract of employment last Saturday, my details were not exported to the system that allows Co ord's to access my contact details. Every single mistake that has been made by this lot have only been highlighted because I have had to make a telephone call ... grrrrr. I've had it with them but still gonna go through the motions, on the positive I've had a permanent job offer today that has nothing to do with Capita ... whoo hoo!!
• I have just come across this thread and may be able to assist some of the people trying to contact there co-ordinators and not getting contact details from crapita, basically the co-ordinator email system works as follows -

Take this as an example

When you applied for the job you will have recieved automated emails throughout the process. Within the subject text you will find the area code something like this (doctor to your own areas)

i.e - A12345CC / Census Collector - Classroom Training Confirmation

Now lets translate this into an email address the A12345 represents the co-ordinators area code, the CC bit stands for Census Collector i.e the job title

take the area code and add @census.gov.uk

i.e - A12345@census.gov.uk

hey presto you have the co-ordinators direct email address, use this method to contact them yourself, good luck everybody hope this helps :)

Aw, that's not good!

I haven't heard anything from them so not holding out much luck. Don't know why they didn't just keep it internal - the Enumerator recruitment went so smoothly, it would have been no bother at all going through the same again!

Oh well, back to the mystery shopping websites instead!
