Census Jobs

Just to add to everyone else's posts. I applied for the role of Collector and I had my telephone interview on January 21st, they told me I'd hear within 2-3 weeks maximum, it's nearly 5 weeks later and I've heard nothing. I called them yesterday and they said that they're in the final stages of the selection process, and that if I haven't heard in a week's time I should give them another call. It certainly doesn't instill huge amounts of confidence in the process though. Let's hope the CRB checks are faster than we all think! You would think in this day and age that these could be obtained almost instantly.
I shall update as and when I get an email saying yes or no.0 -
I emailed yesterday and have just received a reply saying they are hoping to let everyone know within the next week to ten days!0

When I did my last Census collection role all I did was have a brief interview at the Registrars, he showed me a map of the area I was allocated and i have given my forms, a map and a bag - no hassle, forms easy to fill in and a nice job to do. It sounds as though they have now made it complicated!0

Been offered Census Collector on very part time (15hrs) for the one-month period in a local village/country area.
£7.41 an hour.0 -
Hi All,
Anyone know how much tax you will pay doing the Collector role? I've earned 34k so far this year so i'm not really sure it'll be worth doing @ £7.41/hr!!!
Thanks in advance.......MjH0 -

Presumably you will pay tax and NI on all earnings as this isn't your main job. Tax is 20% and NI is 12% I think, so I'd guess 32% of your hourly rate would go straight to the taxman, leaving you with £5.03 an hour approx. Strange, my rate is £8.02 for the same job, but I don't understand why, perhaps it's because it's within an hour of London??0 -
You would only pay NIC on anything above £110 per week.
You would have to pay tax on everything, which is likely to be 20%, unless you fall into the higher rate tax bracket, which would then mean you pay 40%.0 -
Perhaps the only difference is the very unprofessional recruitment methods. Capita have been dreadful......
I've been reading this thread just out of curiousity as I live in Scotland and we have our own recruitment. I've been taken on as a Census Enumerator and from application to interview and appointment the staff have been fast and efficient! Even the Disclosure Check (CRB) was in my hand within 3 days of applying online.
Obviously they have a lot less people to take on but these Capita people sound like a bad joke!
The conspirousy theorist in me wonders if this farce will be used as amo if and when they decide that this will be the last census.....:D0 -
I also have a special Enumerator post, which I was recruited to very quickly and efficiently. At the training they said that they have sorted these quickly as they start first. The collectors have had to wait so they can get the se's in place.
They also said that it was likely that I could carry on as a collector once the se job has finished as people tend to drop out, so may have work for longer than planned (if I enjoy it!!).Fashion on a ration 0 of 660
