Just a heads up, this might make the job a little more difficult. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/feb/19/census-boycott-lockheed-martin

  • They do have a point though...shouldn't have been given to an american firm after all the americans did sell out uk secrets to the russians according to wikileaks and national security should not be compromised. Anyway, we have a job to do so and if people object then its not our problem. The law will handle it. I wonder who made the decision to basically give this firm the job, do we not have anyone capable in the uk?

To be clear about the roles and start dates

21st March is the start date for the Early Collectors only.
There are fewer "Early collectors" than "census collectors". Early Collectors will be carrying out field visits where househlders have telephoned the helpline and requested assistance in completing their questionarie, they will also be assisting with commuity liaison tasks, assisting line manager with admin and checking addresses of questionaries that were unable to be delivered by Royal Mail (newly built houses for example).

Census collectors carry out different duties to early collectors and dont start work untill 6th April, so there is more time to complete the recruitment process.
On their first day of work Census Collectors will be meeting their line manager (area coordinator), collecting supplies etc.

I have to add that the CRB checks are not actually taking very long at all.

Firstly, my preference was the 21st. March start, secondly I was asked at the telephone interview if I could start on the 21st. and lastly I know that CRB checks are taking at least 4 weeks to return.

In that case perhaps (and this is me just guessing) they are fully recruited in your area for that particular role but are keeping your details on the back burner in case people drop out at the last minute?

I agree that it must be frustrating not knowing either way - Good luck with it, hope you get a conclusion soon.

Thanks for that, it's very frustrating especially when you contact
Capita and they can't give you any answers other than the stock reply of 'you will hear something in 2 weeks' I've had that since 23rd November!
  • I got a phone call out the blue yesterday, asking if I was still interested in the position of Census Co-ordinator, after being told in Dec that I had been unsuccessful but my application was held in high regard. Have just given referees, completed on-line training, which actually only took an hour and that was with two little ones running wild!! Just waiting to hear when and where classroom training is, have been told it will be local and at the end of week. So still hope for those who haven't heard yet.

Sounds like a few people are turning roles down so they are having to back track to other applicants. Good for you though :)
  • Hi

I'm a census co-ordinator having gone through all of the training etc and am 2 weeks in. Of the 8 in our area, 3 have already left so I think there will be quite a few offers going out late. I can only assume that the collector recruitment is having the same issue. The whole thing is slightly chaotic at best so we're all just keeping our fingers crossed that it all comes together at the end

  • You guys were right no need to print out the 200 or so odd pages I have just received two very glossy books from the Census folk. Total waste of money.
  • Hi,

Does anyone know what the Census Collector classroom training involves? I have mine in the morning.

    Thanks
    Nicola
