I spoke to my buyer today and he seems to think it's all going ahead and he should be given the all clear for finance on Monday - I'm not convinced and still think it will fall through so I've given him until Monday and if he hasn't got finance then we'll pull out. Another weekend of uncertainty :)

That's my internet business idea taken care of. Voodoo dolls made to order!
    Right, moan time.
Only yesterday I thought I'd be moving within weeks. EA phones today to say vendor wants to move in january. I had specifically asked this ages ago and was led to believe that all parties wanted to move by Christmas. The longer this goes on the more open we are to gazumping. We had been leaning on our buyers so that we could get on with it.
Still it's just a house. If we lose it so be it. It will all work out for the best in the long run.

You should get report back quickly - ours was less than a week after survey.

Hope it all comes back okay!

    That's PANTS!!

Like your attitude though LefiteM - sometimes we all need to remind ourself that it is 'just a house'!! I'm glad that I'm not doing it alone - hubby to lean on - and he's more important than bricks and mortar (queue emphatic noise: "Ahhhh!":smileyhea. ) And, of course, we all have our forum chums to lean on (queue song: "We all need somebody to lean on")

Blimey Hex, what's wrong with it - is it just an old property?

missbee, it is a period property so we anticipated some problems. Only had a basic valuation done for mortgage, surveyor had a look in the loft and spotted woodworm (missed the really obvious stuff in the living room beams though), damp (150 year old solid build, they all have damp) and electrics - two core wiring to modern rcb unit which is ok if not ideal. Three reports needed asap and an 8k retention. Best bit is s/he hasn't spotted the great bulge in the back wall that suggests something a little more structural. FIL is a retired builder, OH works for an electrical firm, and trained with his Dad. Nothing we can't handle just a pain to have the retention as we will now need to pay someone to certify that the work has been done to standard and within x months, assuming we can get a mortgage offer out in time to meet our buyers deadline  .

  • I'm going to making a solicitor voodoo doll tonight, to exact revenge on the lazy overpaid lawmonkey dealing with the clients at the top of our chain. We, the FTBers at the bottom have been ready to exchange for 3 weeks. Everyone in the chain has signed now but the solicitor at the top is 'too busy to exchange' today. I'm going insane, i have ordered a bed for my currently-fictional-house and i'm too afraid to order a sofa. I won't have anything to sit on till feburary now.

    Hi Ringo,

We are in exactly the same position! Called our solicitor today only to be told the answers to her enquiries came in this morning and she will spend early next week going through them. Argh argh argh! The thing is they are such minor points (I know they are paid to find stuff to query!) and like hubby said 'Why couldn't she read it today?!!!!' So anyway, we are going furniture shopping this weekend with measurements but it's going to be so hard to resist ordering something. We know the sofa we want but don't dare to order it (I'm sure) as it's an expensive sofa and we want it to be tailored made to fit the house perfectly! Best of luck to you...

  • Hi all

Apparently the valuation is all ok and mortgage peeps say the offer should be with me by the end of the week:j

But my solicitor say she is still waiting for the contract papers from the vendors solicitor... Is this normal? How long do they take to prepare? Is there anyone I can hassle ;) to get things done?

So badly wanto to be by Xmas... Or the new year at worst!:o
