There are " Off Road " courses available, I don't see any mention of them.

I actually looked into driver training courses(the useful ones rather than just "playing" on skid pans)
they were £300 ish and as there were none within decent driving distance of my home I would have to factor in a hotel stay too.
I would love to do one but out of my price range I'm afraid.

There are loads of courses that people don't/won't take. Its a lot easier for someone to put new boots on and thats better than nothing.
It would be nice if we all had to do these courses as part of the driving test, the roads would be a safer place.

So there's two types of driver, those who believe in buying decent tyres to suit the conditions, and those who are happy to run round on old summer tyres because they're such good drivers they don't need grip?
So are you ok on bald tyres in summer, or are you a wimp like me, that changes them when the tread markers show, even though slicks are better in the dry?
  • I would hazard a guess that insurance company can stop paying out on claims now for drivers who fail to prepare for winter with the correct tyres etc..

Swapping around is common place in Europe.. but not here?

Bald Summer tyres in winter your asking for a crash with the local hedge.
It's hard to find the balance when you are love.
You're lost in the middle cause you have to decide between mind & heart.

    you drinking? :D
  • I think what people are getting at is that there are a whole load of Drivers out there that should not be on the road whatever the conditions are full stop....let alone understand the simplest basic things regarding traction braking etc... Fitting Winter tyres wont keep them out of trouble without applying common sense.... same as the people in nice big 4x4s with elcheapo road biased tyres wont be any use either when the going gets tough.

Obviously there are many that are clued up and can cope with poor conditions and are able to apply common sense to various conditions....be it whether they are on them "Old summer tyres" or them fancy fandango Nokians I'm reading about in every winter tyre thread thats popping up regularly because theres snow...

Got sorted with Bridgestone A001s - so much more grip than the crap they replaced.

    Cheap they were not though.

But at least I can miss you sliding off on your bald summer tyres, while I'm on my fancy Nokians. :rotfl:
