Not that they'll have stock anyway ;)

  • Why are people going mental AGAIN this year about the cold weather? Just slow down a bit and read the conditions and traffic ahead, it isnt that difficult. If its THAT bad winter tyres arent going to save you anyway, might as well just stay at home
  • Well I needed new fronts anyway so getting some all season tyres makes sense as its not a sporty car, I never drive it fast so performance tyres are a waste.I've opted for some part worn branded ones off ebay which work out about half the new price and still have 6mm of tread on them.

How difficult it is depends where you live too, its going to be a lot harder driving in the frozen Scottish highlands than it is on the flats of Lincolnshire.I live in Derbyshire and its hilly pretty much everywhere.
I've never gotten so stuck in the snow I couldn't get going again without some patience but have seen plenty of others getting stuck already as I've just maintained my speed and cruised past.

The summer tyres on my car are poor in the wet never mind on ice/snow.

I'll let you explain to my boss why I'm staying at home.

I not sure, why do some people refuse to acknowledge the benefits of something that improves driving safety?
Do you feel the same about seat belts and ABS?
If we all listened to people like yourself we would still have a man with a flag in front of the car.

There is a very real danger that people using winter tyres may well feel that the tyres compensate for their lack of driving skill.

I have never felt the need to drive on anything other than good quality standard tyres.

    Nail on head there!!

To many the fact that they have their winter tyres fitted will give them that invincible feeling that they can drive as normal.... Same as those in the 4wds with road based tyres.

As said by the other poster the same could be said of all the driving aids provided on modern cars. If they feel safer with winter tyres or live in rural areas where road clearing is poor then its a case of any little helps. Yes there are times you should stay home but sometimes those winter tyres could be the fine line between getting home or being stuck on the side of the road.

fwiw I don't use them but have sold plenty to people who live in rural Scotland to know they benefit some.

If they are unskilled and not likely to get any training to improve their driving then surely thats a good thing? It has to be better than them just carrying on regardless.

I've never felt the need either but after last winter I thought I'd give some all seasons tyres a try rather than the summer tyres I normally get.So more suitable tyres and a competant driver is even better still imo.

There are " Off Road " courses available, I don't see any mention of them.
