Also, I don't think there's a single woman out there who has decided on an early termination who has not regretted it in some small corner of their heart. They would be borderline inhuman if they didn't. But that certainly does not mean that they did not made the best decision for themselves at the time.
I don't believe that any mother ever regrets bringing a child into this world, regardless of their circumstances after the fact. That's the way we are made.
This does sound rather like presenting your personal opinion as fact. Opinions and facts are sometimes two very different things.
I seem to recall reading an article recently which commented about what proportion of women subsequently regretted an abortion - from memory...I think it was the minority.
I know that its been taboo for mothers to admit they regret becoming mothers - but I am also trying to recall the couple of articles I read recently by mothers admitting that they wish they'd never done so and that a lot of their friends have admitted to feeling the same way.
With absolutely everything in life - some people will be very glad they did it/some will regret it. Thats life....

One cannot ignore facts because they are not convenient.

I must admit one of my thoughts was a possible fact in this particular case might be a relapse in the illness if O.P. proceeds with the pregnancy - and then a subsequent poster pointed out that this does indeed sometimes happen. That is another question O.P. needs to ask - they need to check out medical opinion as to what the odds are of a relapse in their illness if they go ahead with the pregnancy.0 -

I am aware that opinions and facts are two difference things Ceridwen because, despite evidence to the contrary, I am not an idiot.
I did not intend to present my personal opinion as fact and that is the reason I used qualifiers like "I think" and "I don't believe".
I think you will find that of the two paragraphs of mine you quoted, once was "pro" and the other was "con" termination. Under the circs I thought I was trying to be pretty even-handed and did not want to push an agenda either way as I did not have one.
You, on the other hand, just seemed to focus on the debt and financial aspects in your post and did appear to have an opinion which favoured one side of the debate.0 -

Borderline inhuman? Nice and judgemental to the many many women who have an abortion and quite happily get on with the rest of their lives.
OP, get to the doctor on Monday and discuss it with him/her. They'll discuss your options or refer you to an unbiased source.
Good luck whatever your decision.0 -

...and that was the bit that sounded a lot like personal opinion to me....to call someone "borderline inhuman" if they have an abortion.
Having an abortion is JUST having an abortion - a medical procedure...no more no less. It is totally inappropriate for anyone to say either that someone is "borderline inhuman" on the one hand or a "really nice person" on the other hand. The person is whatever sort of person they are - and that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any medical procedures they do or don't have.
If I'd ever had to have an abortion I would have been absolutely livid at anyone casting aspersions on my character because of it...0 -

I think you'll find you need to re-read the post. No-one said that having an abortion made one 'borderline inhuman'.
At the end of the day ceridwen we all know you're not one for children and have deeply held views about overpopulation, but I find the tone of your posts on the subject of pregnancy really off-putting.0 -

No Ceridwen I did not say that. I said that I believed that a lot of women who did decide to terminate their pregnancies would have had a tiny corner of their heart where they regretted having to make the decision. I fully accept that a lot of women ultimately may have been glad of the decision they made but not made it lightly. I meant making it lightly would have been the inhuman part.
I fully apologise if anything in my posts was inarticulate and open to misunderstanding or misinterpretation. That was not my intent.
I've never had a termination. I've never been in a position where I would have had to make that decision and I fully endorse that every woman should have the right to make the best decision for herself without censure or being judged.0 -

SO I do have to weigh up the options. I know its not necessarily ideal to have a child whilst studying but I am fairly mature and if its going to happen, its going to happen.
Not sure what I am asking her, I simply can't ask my parents for advice as I tend to stress them out with my antics.
If this your feelings about abortion then you need to think long and hard before making a decision which is irreversable.
if you can then I think that you should speak to your parents, yes it will be a shock but they are the people most able to support you.BitterAndTwisted wrote: »

Please accept the advice to go and consult Brook Advisory. They are impartial and will help you make the best decision for yourself and support you once you've made it.
That kind of language just isn't helpful. yes it can cause regrets but calling someone borderline inhuman for not having regrets says more about you than anyone else!
Brook Advisory are not impartial as they are one of the biggest abortion providers in the country....and that was the bit that sounded a lot like personal opinion to me....to call someone "borderline inhuman" if they have an abortion.

i agree with most of what you say but an abortion isn't just a medical procedure. It does however have no impact on what kind of person you are.

it would be helpful if people would actually read the posts, bitterandtwisted did not say that someone was borderline inhuman for having an abortionIts not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

it would also be helpful if you could give links to these articles that you seem to recall reading then perhaps they would become facts? Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

I said: "Also, I don't think there's a single woman out there who has decided on an early termination who has not regretted it in some small corner of their heart. They would be borderline inhuman if they didn't."
The "it" in that sentence was supposed to have meant having to make the decision. Not that they were inhuman to have made it. I accept in retrospect that I could have made myself clearer about what I meant.
Flipping heck!
Also, I personally know someone who works for Brook Advisory and although I accept that they make arrangements for lots of women to terminate they do provide counselling and help women to reach the decision not to proceed. Therefore I do not personally believe that they push one agenda or the other. No-one in their right mind would want to encourage a decision which would be the wrong one for any particular woman.0
