Are we talking about the desire or the desire HD? i have the HD and it is doing the same thing as everyones here. I e-mailed HTC stating the problem and they sent me a ups tracking label to print out and got UPS to pick my phone up on a day i preferred. Just waiting on it to come back so hopefully everything will be OK. Also they were very quick to respond, under an hour from me sending the initial e-mail.

The thread is about the Desire, not the HD.

I too was impressed with HTC response to my complaint, and I have to say that since getting my Desire back I have been hammering it with apps and it has not fallen over even once.

So for now I'm going to give the phone the benifit of the doubt and say there was a bad batch which HTC are sorting out as fast as they can.

My HD did this for the first time last night. Hopefully, it's a one-off. If not, it'll be going back to HTC to sort. Good to hear they are so good with their response times.

  • I got a HTC Desire through Orange in august. I paid £150 for the handset + my monthly fee. After about two weeks the phone started turning itself off randomly and restarting. Sometimes it would restart once, other times it would got into a restart loop and would only stop once i took the battery out. It could to a point where i couldnt make any texts or calls because it kept restarting. I went into the orange store and asked them to replace the phone. They made me call up orange customer services to get a reference number. I rang up orange customer services on my mobile and after 20mins of being on hold my phone restarted! Eventually one of members of staff gave me his work mobile and i got through.

I was given a brand new HTC Desire handset. In December this new handset started to restart itself again. I would struggle to even get the phone to stay on at some points. I rang up orange numerous times and was just told oh we can only offer you a referb now. I explained that i wasnt very happy because i couldnt use any of my minutes or texts because my phone wouldnt stay on long enough. I told them i wasnt happy to get a referb as i paid for the handset and didnt really wan an old scratched one as a replacement. I was told that there was no other option. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the person was really rude and just kept repeating that there was no point speaking to a manager and refused to put me though. The person told me that i had to take the replacement right there and then or i would be charged for a replacement the next time i called. Which didnt sound right to me at all. The person was out right rude so i hung up on them. I called back a few mins later and spoke to a girl who said i had about 2 months left before i would need to pay for a replacement! Eventually i agreed for a replacement.

My 3rd HTC desire arrived this morning. Lets see how long this one lasts!!

I was told that if they have to replace it again they may offer to give me a different handset but this was not guranteed or likely.

    I hate orange. NEVER AGAIN!

My replacement HTC Desire has worked faultlessly for the nearly 2 months I've had it, after the original kept rebooting. I sat replaacement, its the same phone with new motherboard, so it is a replacement really.

Since the old one started giving trouble after roughly 3 months use still got time to go yet before I can say for sure that they have cured the problem. But looking good so far.
  • my desire's been crashing more frequently, but only when GPS is on. It happens with CoPilot and Google Maps/Navigation. It got me lost last night, so I was driving around for hours. I officially give up on satnavs! I'll be calling orange next week.
  • I,ve had mine about 8 weeks and its going the same way as all the others on here, did anyone get this resolved? :(

A relative got their phone fixed by HTC under warrenty, though the HTC customer service was !!!! poor. However they tell me the phone lasts at least twice as long on a charge than before. I assume the new motherboard they fitted is a newer design which uses less power.

Well as I started the thread on this issue it's only fair that I now report that since getting a new motherboard fitted at Christmas time my Desire has not had any further issues. It has not rebooted or done anything it shouldn't and that is now more than 3 months since it was fixed by HTC.

So in my opinion HTC have addressed the problem and anyone with the problem should get in touch with HTC and get them to replace the motherboard.

Updating this post even though its been a long time since last post and the issue of desire rebooting problem is still on going and judging by google searches is very wide spread. After taking mine into the local t-mobile shop for repair i had a heated discussion with a clown in their who thought he was technician and kept intentionally calling me "mate" to my annoyance and that i shouldnt believe everything i read on the internet and that he's not aware of any issues with the phone and in general wouldnt let me get a word in. Eventually went to a second store and got phone sent off, waited three weeks for return and same damn problem, maddens me because im paying out for a contract and have no use of phone. Nobody seems to want to listen to your input on fixes that others have had performed all i had done to mine was a reflash !!! (apparently its a motherboard issue ) waited three weeks for that, whos trying to fob of who, or are they hoping they can keep doing this till the warranty runs out which coincidently for those who are not aware is 2 years. This is apparently effecting the later HD models too. Their is not enough noise being made by the consumer and HTC need to be hit where it hurts not forgetting the phone contractors who are happy to put us on contracts and take our money then say get stuffed when youve signed on the dotted line. Come on everyone wake up and not least the ones who have managed to get something done, remember the issues you had!!
