Mine was 6 months old and it would do exactly as op described. I phoned Virgin who said they were no longer stocking it and to return it and choose a new phone.
I wasn't happy as i loved that phone and now reluctantly have a 'wildfire' but on a much cheaper deal.
  • Does anyone think i've got any options though ?

If UPS can't get out to me on monday, which I half expect they won't, then i'll arguably have to start booking it in just once or twice a week to see what happens because I really can't wait in every single day on the off chance they might make it through the snow.

Then you're getting in to the new year and arguably late January before i'm even going to see the phone again, and I do need a mobile for various reasons.

I don't know anyone who has a spare I can borrow and I really can't afford to buy one either - even one of those 90p ones at the CPW needs a £10 top-up which even that would be a stretch at the moment.

Could I feasibly go back to Phones4u and argue for a replacement phone?

I'm in same position as you. Waiting on UPS to collect.

You could take it to UPS depot yourself.
I found an old Nokia 3210 which takes my T Mobile sim, but you could buy a £10 phone from ASDA/Tesco that would keep you going for a bit

My retailer said I could take it to Carphone warehouse to get it repaired. They didint mention I would have to pay for the repir though. Sneaky.
  • UPS did offer me the chance to take it to the depot today, but it's in Barking and I live in South Ockendon in Essex and i don't drive.

And I certainly don't want to chance the trains at the moment either.

£10, at the moment, really is a stretch that I can't really afford. Maybe in a fortnight, but certainly not now ..

It's just a pain in the backside really .. I'm half tempted to take Virgin's offer for a Blackberry Curve at £10 a month as i'd get it for free and i'd arguably get it now as well. Obviously i'd have to unlock it, but I could probably do that a lot sooner than I'd see the Desire back and working.

I could give the sim to a person I know as well, since they're after a similar deal to what this £10 a month offers.

    ARGH !

Is it because youve downloaded the new update and it hasnt saved, I had a problem with mine because it needed to free a certain amount of memory and after the update had been successfully downloaded and updated my phone the crashing stopped worth a point, check the updated on about my phone and see if its been downloaded correctly , may take patience

The update downloaded and installed on mine without any issues. I was using it for around a day afterwards.

I have an unbranded HTC on Orange and after the 2.2 update, it would reboot all day. I sent it back to HTC for repair, and they sent it back with a new motherboard.

It was okay for 1 day and now it reboots. But, nowhere near as often as before. I have hardly any apps installed and never use the GPS. I cannot understand why this happens.

It really is a disgrace. Shame on you HTC.

I'm wondering if this will happen for me as well. I would have thought that you would be entitled to a new, replacement handset if the problem still hasn't been resolved ?

I'm heading to Phones4U this morning to see what my options are - to be honest, i'm not expecting much.

OP i myself have just this week come across the rebooting issue, i had it in gps mode plugged in via 12 volt socket and it rebooted about 6 or 7 times on the journey i was on, im tempted to wait until after christmas or at least until the snow has gone and then get it sorted. The rebooting i had other day wasnt as bad as the OP's, it would reboot and it would be fine until it rebooted again. Ive not had it reboot on me at any other time though

I had the issue after having the phone for maybe 6-7 weeks. HTC told me it would be "12 working days" for the repair. It took six weeks. They've refused any compensation, despite me being around £50 out of pocket for a phone and contract I couldn't use for the duration of the repair which was necessary due to a manufacturing fault on their part.

Love the phone - very unimpressed with the company who make it.
