HTC Desire Rebooting Issue

Surely if HTC are selling phones with a built in fault that must be illegal. I'm not saying they did it on purpose but it is their responsibility.
No its the responsibility under the Sale Of Goods Act only from the seller of the product . Its they that are responsible for at least twelve months . You get any 14 days 28 days nonsense you go to Trading Standards .

My problem has now taken my phone completely - it's dead. It had rebooted once already this morning, and about 10 minutes afterwards I was editing a contact and it rebooted mid-edit and never came back.
It got as far as the white screen with the HTC logo and stopped. I popped the battery and tried again but nothing.
Rebooted into recovery but couldn't get any further and even tried a factory reset but every time it stopped on the HTC logo.
I even left it in a very cold cupboard in case it was anything to do with overheating. Left it with the back cover off and the battery out for about 45 minutes. When I took it out of the cupboard it was actually ice cold to the touch - but still didn't come back to life.
I'm just wondering if it's worth going via Phones4U or going to HTC direct - the quicker option would obviously be the most preferable.
If this fault is as widespread as it appears to be, i'm surprised HTC didn't issue a recall ?. Or maybe they wanted to keep it quiet for fear of losing ground to the iPhone ?0 -
I got a HTC Desire HD three weeks ago. The issue I have had is that it deleted all of my text message. Many of which were old multimedia messages which are irreplaceable.
All of my settings are as expected and the Vodaphone shop have now admitted that this is a fault with the running system of the HTC (Android 2.2).
Many of the forums have other users who have experianced the same issues.
I am now in correspondence with Vodaphone to try and recitfy issue so far with no avail.
Apologies for gatecrashing ur thread but wanted to add my experiances to your post.0 -

Did you sign up with the HTCSense site?
They automatically backup your contacts and SMS's
All my SMS's and contacts were wiped when i installed a new ROM on to my DHD,
But after I ran through the inital setup and put my HTCSense login details they were sync'ed back onto my phone.Laters

I don't think it's a software problem myself - if it's anything to do with the software, it would be at kernel level because I've had a custom rom on my desire for months, although I did, thankfully, manage to restore the stock orange rom on to the phone before it died completely.
I booked my phone in for repair this morning and I was actually asked which version of the software I was running, so maybe HTC do actually think it's software ?
They did also tell me that the turnaround time is usually less than the recommended 10 working days, so for me that certainly suggests a common problem. Anyway, the courier is hopefully coming tomorrow afternoon to pick it up.0 -
Thank you for your response.
No I didn't sign up to the HTC sense I wish I had.
All I am going with is what Vodaphone told me in that it was a Software fault and HTC have said they are working on an updated android version to solve.
It seems to be quite a big issue. I was quoted that 75% of 2.2 version users had experianced this issue.0 -
I have a thread going about my htc desire too, i have downloaded the 2.2 update and it has affected my internet connection and has been back to htc twice..the phone is 3 months old and i bought it payg from o2.
I am telling you this because i too would like to know who is responsible for the warranty/who is responsible for the phone ...Htc or O2 who i bought it from ?

For the first 12 months it is the responsibility of the shop that you got the phone from to deal with it. Accept no excuses about it having to be sent to HTC by you from the shop, as soon as you deal with HTC direct you take the shop out of the loop and you leave yourself in a much weakened position! Do not ever let a shop fob you off with excuses saying that you yourself must sort it with HTC, NEVER!I have a thread going about my htc desire too, i have downloaded the 2.2 update and it has affected my internet connection and has been back to htc twice..the phone is 3 months old and i bought it payg from o2.

Absolutely insist 100% that within 12 months of purchase the responsibility to fix / replace the phone lies with the shop that sold it to you and you have consumer law to back you up 100% on this! They themselves must send it to their service department or HTC or wherever but this is not your problem, the shop must deal with it for you.
Similarly, if bought online (say at the 02 online shop) then again you will need to contact them and ask how and where to send the phone for replacement or repair. It is still their responsibility to deal with it, don't be fobbed off.0 -
Lets try and get all those in the UK with this issue onto this thread and take it onto the BBC. Please if you see or know of anyone with the problem tell them to post in here. If we can get the numbers up then we will have a case.
For information there are long threads on other forums talking about the problem.
Some that Ive found are here forum.vodafone.co.uk
and here androidforums.com (board wont let me post links sorry, maybe somebody could do that for me)
Please spread the word. These phones are useless and should be recalled. Plus something needs to be done about these retailers not taking responsibility for sorting it out.0 -
I'm caught between a rock and a hard place because mine is booked in with HTC for repair, but the local UPS couriers can't get out to pick it up because of the weather.
They keep ringing me, apologising and re-booking it in for the next day, but i can't wait in every single day for them so if they can't get out to me on monday - which i'm not really expecting to be honest - i don't know what i'm going to do as i don't know anyone with a spare phone I can borrow and I certainly can't afford to buy another one.0
