Afternoon all. Payday yesterday so a bit of a money shuffle. Moved the old window loan to the building work savings and updates signature. Unfortunately the balance has gone down as we took £400 from there for the unexpected expenses we had. £82 gone back in this morning. We should get the £400 back but to be honest I'm not going to hold my breath. This is the second (and last time) they've done this now! but learn my lesson and move on I think is the best thing in this situation.

Banks are not looking that great to be honest either. I'm hating being in my overdraft. Funny how your perspective changes isn't it? While throwing every last penny at the loan, I just accepted being in my overdraft and just tried not to get more into it each month. Now these are our only debts I'm hating them.

Need to find some cheap and cheerful things to do with the kiddies for the rest of the holidays now.

What a dreary Monday morning :( The kids are quite happy as they have a huge cardboard box to play in :rotfl: So far it's been a bedroom, a dog's bed, a car garage and I think they are back to being dogs now! They are loving it. Which is good as it's given me a bit of time to sort some things out. I've just found a letter addressed to DH (open and left on the side so I wasn't snooping) saying our house insurance was about to run out....last week  I rang him to check he had renewed it and he says "it renews automatically" I mean first of all you should never just renew without looking around and secondly it says on the letter in the very first sentence "This policy will not automatcially renew" Pah!

So I've been searching home insurance quotes *yawn* but it's now done and we have saved ourselves £14.33 a month. I would have liked to have paid the annual figure as it wasn't that much but with all the uncertainty with the unexpected expenses at the moment. We are still not sure exactly how much we need to spend out so I can't risk paying a big chunk out now. It's not much of a fuss anyway as the policy is only £11.69 a month so not bank breaking thankfully. I now need to go and find the utility bills and see if I can reduce those too :)

Morning all. Another rainy day. Don't they know it's school holidays?? :(

Productive morning so far. I've managed to compare and start a switch for our utilities. Should save £22 a month so add that to the house insurance saving and we'll be rich...rich I tell you! :rotfl:

Well maybe not rich but it's a start. That's £36 a month better off. That pays for DD's dance classes for the month :T I think I'll move the money into our savings once the new direct debits start. That way the saving won't be "lost"

Car insurance is due the end of this month so as soon as I get the renewal letter through I will compare those too. I'm hoping there's enough money in the car savings to pay that in full although I'm not sure as the service is due on the car too so we might not have enough.

I'm just wondering now what else I can switch to save more money :rotfl:
Our mortage is on the best deal for now. We've got one year left of the fix I think but it's a really low interest rate and I don't think we'll beat it at the moment. When we fixed that we kept our original payments so we actually over pay by over £120 a month without noticing. :money:

Shopping is the next thing on my list. I really need to sort that out and get a grip on our shopping spending. We have just done a big shop though so I just plan to keep "top up" shops to a minimum.

It's a good start to the day anyway :D

Well I managed to get most of the things on my list done. The only thing I didn't do was hang the washing up :o I've had to re-wash it this morning but on the upside the sun is peeking out now so it can go outside :j

Feeling a bit low today. DH was supposed to be home this afternoon after being away for nearly 2 weeks but I've just text him and he hasn't even set off yet! He's not even nearly ready to set off either  It's a 4 hour drive (depending on traffic) so he won't be home til this evening at least! The kids keep asking where he is and giving me stick when I say he won't be home til late. He was originally supposed to be home yesterday so we are all a bit fed up to be honest :(

Chin up starnac. He'll be home soon, though it is annoying that you're waiting around. The lack of urgency and the male species seem to go hand in hand..... :-)

Wow! 1st September. Where did the summer go? Although we didn't really have much of a summer weather wise. Never mind, we had a lot of fun and did quite a bit of (frugal) things. Kids are back in school today. DD went this morning and DS goes this afternoon.

DD was really ready to go back and was so excited this morning. I hardly slept last night as I didn't want to lose them and their company :( But seeing her face this morning, it's the right thing for her. I probably won't feel the same when DS goes as I'm not expecting him to go easily.

Now they are back at school I need to get organised. I should have a bit more time on my hands and I need to use that time productively. There are a million and one things that need doing in the house plus I want some sewing time and I need time for my prep and planning work for my job. Maybe I need some kind of rota?

How has everyone enjoyed their summer?

  • It was summer?

YAY to tiddlers being happy to get back into it. Even if it makes the house kinda quiet for a bit, well maybe not that quiet eh?

I'm quietly doing flylady and whilst I'm not suggesting you do it her 'zones' is a kind of rota.....might be worth doing something like it for your different pursuits?
