Afternoon all. Has anyone on the book of face seen that "memory" thing that they do? They offer up posts that you posted on that day over the years. Well today my "memory" told me that 5 years ago tomorrow we picked up the keys to our current house! can't believe we have been here 5 years!
Seeing that has stirred up some emotions. When we moved we knew that this wasn't going to be our forever home. We always said that we would live here, pay off our debts then save to buy our forever home. We estimated it would take us 5 years! Then we had another baby, the window frames were all rotten and the house was like sitting in a wind tunnel. We had a loan to replace all the windows, then we had to buy a new (to us) car which resulted in another loan. *sigh* which brings us to today. 5 years later and no closer to moving into our forever home.
Don't get me wrong. This isn't a pity party. I do like living here. It's a lovely house with plenty of space for a growing family. But it is on the main road with no parking and a yard instead of a garden. Parking is getting so problematic we are regularly parking 2 streets away. And a yard isn't really suitable for young children to play in never mind trying to grow as much of our food as we can.
The upside obviously is that we have paid off all our loans and only have overdrafts left owing. We are in a much better situation than we were 5 years ago. And I am happy. What makes me sad is seeing a dream (albeit unreachable) delayed by life!
I feel at a crossroads as such as I have recently taken a good look at our lives and decided that I will change the things I don't like. Starting with myself. I have stopped the agency work (for now) to concentrate on my family, I am part way through a cleanse to try and kick start a healthy eating campaign. I have put on too much weight recently through picking and just throwing food out of the freezer into the oven. I need to get back to cooking properly again. I'm hoping that will curb our shopping bill a little bit too.
Wow I've just re read this and it's a bit much for a saturday afternoon isn't it? I don't mean to moan on here I just have all these thoughts buzzing around in my head and I need to put them down somewhere I won't get bashed.

starnac - you're streets ahead of where you could be because you are aware. Other folk will have bought a house, had kiddies, got a car loan, got a home-improvement loan and, and, and.......
You and your DH are raising your dear children, you're taking charge of your lives and living within your principles. I have no doubt that you will have your 'forever house'. OK, so your arbitrary target of 'within 5 years' may not have been met, but it doesn't mean to say that the target won't be met. There is a big difference
Keep on keeping on! You've moved mountains thus far, and you have the tools in your toolbox to move more - whilst building cherished moments and memories with your precious family. You're living. Keep. Going.

What a lovely thing to say. Thank you. I am not really sure how to follow that except to say thank you and I will be keeping that very close to my heart :kisses3:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Good morning. And if you don't look out of the window it's a lovely morning :rotfl: DH is home although has gone to work
and my cleanse seems to have given me a good kick. In 2 days I lost 3lbs and 6" :T Now before you all start bashing. I know that the cleanse isn't a long term thing and I know I will put some weight back on when I go back to eating normally again. All I wanted was a good cleanse and a kick start to healthy eating. I know quite a bit about nutrition but I have got into such a funk recently I have been eating all sorts of junk and it has taken a toll on my body. My skin was looking terrible, I felt bloated and sluggish. That was the reason for the cleanse not some magic weight loss cure. So although I have lost weight and I am pleased with that I feel so much better in myself already. I am also in a better headspace to start healthy eating again too. So job done...almost. I've got 4 more days left on the cleanse yet.
Ooh now I came on here to say something but I have been distracted by kiddies needing the toilet and texts and I have now forgotten. Hmm
Old age definitely does not come by itself :rotfl:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
What's the cleanse? Sounds really interesting, I also feel bloated and sluggish and would be willing to have a go. Xx0

It's this one. (American site sorry) I only did it because a friend of mine has just started working for them and wanted guinea pigs to use as testimonials for her business. I would never have paid full price! :rotfl:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Pay day tomorrow so just having a look at the banks. Some unexpected expenses this month so we've had to borrow some money from our savings. I'm a bit gutted to be honest as it's the first time in a while we've had proper savings and it was saving towards something not just savings
Never mind we are in dispute with a particular company (again-and hopefully for the last time) so I hope to recoup some of those expenses.
On the upside my overdraft is down again :T so I've updated my signature. I've changed it to show only mine for now as it was getting confusing trying to work out the different overdrafts so I'm going to concentrate on mine for now, DH can concentrate on his and then we will do the j/a togetherGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

Hi Star,
Just popping in to say hello. You are doing so well with the savings. Don't feel too disheartened, you still have a lot saved. Think of when the work is done on the house. You can do what you want to do. It will be brilliantTotal (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

CMD I can't wait til all our money is ours for a change. DH refers to the days when our money was our own as "the good old days" :rotfl:
Seriously though. Once the overdrafts are paid off and the building work is done, I am hoping to get some savings behind us. An emergency fund would be nice, as would savings for our forever home. Seems so far off at this point still!Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

It'll come around quicker than you think. Just keep the head down and you'll get there! At least you aren't putting the building work on the credit card. It will all be paid for your hard earned cash. There's great satisfaction in thatTotal (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
