Protest by Asylum Seekers

Anyone see the asylum seekers protesting in Glasgow? They have been requested to vacate their houses and move elsewhere in Glasgow

I just don't get why they are protesting. I would have thought if they were scared for their lifes in their home countries moving house would have been a trivial problem. After all people do it every day.

Is it just me or do a lot of asylum seekers seem a bit ungrateful? We give them houses/ money/ healthcare and schooling. Then they protest because they have to move house.

  • Imagine how disorientating it would be to get settled in a new country then have to up sticks and go elsewhere other than the place you have finally gotten used to?

    Good on them, I say.

Where are they moving them to, a nice house by the sea with more rooms?

Maybe a 4 bedroom renovated apartment in the city centre with all mod cons? With room for the rest of the family.

Who the hell are asylum seekers to protest they have no rights to do that in this country specialy when their not even citizens.

    mmmm slightly incorrect

I agree with the sentiment though. Its like the benefit scroungers complaining due to the new measures to catch them out. Those who genuinely need it have nothing to worry about.

One really infuriating comments i found were

"We have now been informed of cases of two women being put into mental hospitals after breaking down when they received the removal letter.

"It should not be forgotten that on 7 March 2010, a Russian family of three committed suicide together after being sent a letter from the UK Borders Agency."

I mean really? They can overcome the tyranny of a dictatorship, or the horrors of the janjaweed, poverty, drout, starvation, ecenomic collapse but have a mental breakdown having to move house, all expenses paid?

But you don't know how that affects you mentally you cannot really comment can you. Maybe if you had just an inkling of what some people who claim asylum here have been through then maybe you could comment

    Some, yes. All? Absolutely not.

I hear that the Somalian pirate who kidnapped the British couple will shortly be enroute to the UK to claim asylum. His family are here already.

I never said all did I? Whilst i agree that not every immigrant who claims asylum is being truthful - when you here of people taking their own lives then you have to stop and think that something really bad must have happened in their lives for them to be that extreme.

Its nice living in Britain though - we never get persecuted apart from a few feral youths and the only thing we do have to fear is higher taxes and having to work longer before you retire.

Bit different to people who have had whole villages and families burnt and maimed and murdered... And live in constant fear that they will be next.

    Didn't say you did.

I suspect the majority use it as an effective way of staying in Britain.

Our welfare and benefits system means that the UK is seen as El Dorado for economic migrants. Separating the genuine asylum seekers from the scroungers is near impossible.
