I think it fair to say that most east europeans will be in the 70% of taxpayers that receive more from the state than they pay in. Obviously this 70/30 figure is a rough estimate. For instance if your never sick etc your more likely to pay in more than you receive.

Having said the above the beauty that east european girls bring to the streets of Glasgow is priceless. I think Ali G had the right idea on imigration - "only let fit birds in"

So basically your lumping them in with the rest of us who take out more in benefits then pay in tax..

That's a real sturdy argument against them that is.Especially if the ratio would be the same if we had no immigrants in the country.

I'm not lumping east europeans in with anyone. What i'm saying is that economically east europeans aren't that beneficial for the economy. The next time you see a Romanian Big Issue seller ask yourself what they are offering the UK economy. Most people would think they take a lot more out than they put in.

i think we've all heard anecdotes about east europeans working here and saving every penny to spend in their own country. One story I heard was of east european lorry drivers flying to the UK every Monday morning, then sleeping/ living in their lorry cabs during the week, then flying back to their home country on Friday night. This might be urban legend, but it does have the ring of truth to it. How can such behaviour be good for the UK economy? At least a "British" lorry driver is more likely to spend his wages in the UK. That has to be better for the UK economy.

One of the arguments for immigration is that it is good for the economy. I agree immigration must increase GDP (ie total economy). But unskilled immigration is likely to reduce GNP (ie average income). So if immigration reduces my living standards why should I think it is a good thing?

My experience working in a local authority demonstrated the nonsense which arises from "embracing" and "fostering" links with ethnic minorities.
For example , applicants from a UK background to become taxi drivers are required themselves to complete forms and take tests.
Applicants from , say asian origin , can , at the local authority's expense , have an interpreter accompany them to undertake these examinations.
The object of the exercise is to ensure that the public are ensured that a licensed driver can get them to their destination and that the licensed driver is of good repute.
If they need an interpreter ??????

I love the way that this thread degenerated into a !!!! flinging contest accusing people of racism.

Personally, I dont care if people think I am rascist because I want what is best for my country.

I dont care if you dont agree with me IF i say I dont want people from other countries using our benefit system having put nothing in.

I couldnt give a flying dog biscuit if you hate me IF believe that the majority of asylum seakers are actually economic migrants who are here to better themselves financial

And I dont care if you views are entirely different to mine. I dont think you are scum or unpatriotic becuase you want to let these people in. Because thats what I love about this country, the fact that we are allowed to discus these things in an open forum and not be censored (with the exception of the swearing).

What will !!!! me off is if you tell me I am racist for loving my country no matter how messed up it is. I english and proud first, british and proud second. Just because I am white and have an opinion dont make me out to be intollerant. I dont care where you from or what religeon you are or what the colour of your skin is. If you come here contribute. If not !!!! off!
