Protest by Asylum Seekers

I didn't realise that so many of the asylum seekers destroy their passports so no-one can return them to their home country. If it is so simple, I am surprised that we are not besieged.0

Not so sure.
Can you disprove it????0 -

Not quite sure that in 1972 we voted for the Poles and Romanians to visit us quite so much.
I think the EC/EU debate has moved on since we joined. Don't you?0 -

Jolly good - let's have a few more boatloads over then, I say

There are about 450,000 failed asylum seekers in the UK. Say it costs 10k a year for each of them. That means it costs the taxpayer 4.5billion a year to keep people that have no legal or moral right to be in the country.
I'd rather use that money on other things like getting rid of tuition fees or getting the Royal Navy aircraft for their new carriers.0 -

On what basis do you suggest that a failed asylum seeker, who cannot get a job, claim benefits, get into trouble (as they'd soon be deported if arrested) would cost £10000 a year?
You've managed to outrage yourself on your own imaginationSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Say it costs 1p a year - that's under £5000.

Not quite true, if a asylum seeker has a claim that has not been processed within a year they can seek work. After a recent supreme court decision that also applies to failed asylum seekers who resubmit their claim after a refusal...
Asylum seekers do cost the UK economy they are entitled to somewhere to live and money for food and clothes.
It is very hard to deport a failed asylum seeker and I seem to remember the figures are about 1/3 of rejections actually result in deportation."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I wish failed asylum seekers did cost 1 pence a year!
If they can't work or claim benefits how do they survive? They live on fresh air?
I'd imagine they cost closer to 10k a year each to keep. I may be wrong but when an asylum seeker sends a kid to school do they not get special support because they don't speak English? How much must it cost to employ someone just to sit there with them to help them? Is that really fair on their classmates?
I spent a few months in a B and B in england. There was an immigrant there with her kid. She was offered a council house but turned it down because it wasn't good enough for her. How much was she costing the taxpayer?
You honestly think housing/ benefits/ schooling/ healthcare and endless appeals to the immigration service cost 1 pence a year?0 -
Im quite concerned about Asylum seekers. Currently I receive approx £1k for every property I rent out to the councils to house the families.
If the Asylum procedures is fast tracked then I am most likely to be out of pocket in excess of £10k per month.
Surely it is not British? I expect to gain a profit from my hard work, granted it does cause ill feeling to the Mail readers, but I want my money and the Asylum seekers are helping me achieve my financial goals.0 -
I find it hard to worry about someone who owns at least 10 properties. Rent them out to more stable people if you're that concerned.0
