I was taught you could get fined for littering (because it's a crime) back in primary school, and I left there in 1996.

I was also told it was illegal whilst in primary school and I left there in 1970.

Dropping litter of any kind out of your car is one of my biggest bug-bears. You're in a big tin can for goddness sakes. You don't have to hold onto the item , put it on the floor, in the ash tray, in the boot etc til you get to your destination - it's not hard.
I wish more people were fined - if a car infront of me throws litter out of the window i lean on my horn for about 20 seconds in annoyance.
Hopefully his fine will work as a deterrant and he will stop.

What makes me mad with litter wardens is that they pick their mark. I saw an elderly lady approached by a PCSO and given a ticket for dropping a sweet wrapper, while the tattooed yob who chucked the remainder of his Chinese takeaway onto the pavement 10 feet away was studiously ignored.

I know it's all litter, but I'd rather see something done about the takeaway than the sweet wrapper.

  • Your OH just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time, unfortunate for you both, fortunate for the planet.
  • a couple of weeks ago i was sat in a traffic jam and i opened my car door and tipped half a can of 'old' coke on the road (then put the can in the bin bag in my car) an old man beside me called over that i was littering and he should call the police and he will be writing my number plate down ..... :rotfl::eek:

reading this post though i wonder if i could have been fined if i'd been spotted!

I usually keep a plastic shopping bag hanging over my gearstick into the passenger footwell to use as a waste bin when driving.

I dont smoke so my ashtrays are always clean.

I can't see how that is littering! A couple of minutes later there will be no trace of the coke on the ground.

Maybe the old guy thought you'd chucked the coke can, too?
  • I'll make sure my step grandpa knows he always throws his fag end out the window
