  • Birmingham Airport also charge for the plastic balls from a vending machine. They contain twio or three plastic bags and are £1. My friend was stopped in July for having a plastic bag that was too big and had to buy one of the "official" ones. Another way of getting revenue for something totally useless!!!!
    Normal people worry me.

  • Manchester I had to spend £2 in a vending machine to get a plastic ball thing with some bags in, rip off! -- Sticks in my throat that they attempt to make money out of security issues..

The profit from the Manchester bags goes to charity. It also encourages people to plan ahead, bring their own bag and/or reuse where possible.

I just use one of those resealable freezer bags. Was in Dublin a few weeks ago and they were charging for the bags....
At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)

  • I only fly from Gatwick or Stansted and use a freezer bag that has a couple of white stripes round it. Never been a problem with it.

As others I also use a freezer bag for this futile security farce

These containers must be placed within a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity (approximately 20cm x 20cm). The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably and the bag sealed.

So as long as your sandwich bag is no larger than the allowed size and resealable, yes...we use small resealable bags we have in the kitchen for other purposes...not sandwich bags as such, but a sandwich would fit in them.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I have used normal freezer bags (non-sealable) through Heathrow and Stansted and have never had a problem.

I suppose the only reason they say they should be sealable so that if any of the liquids leaks they don't make a mess but I have never seen this enforced.
