  • If this was a scam then I expect someone to point out where the scam is????????????

We have done, you're just too young to see it.
  • I haven't laughed this much since I watched Ann Widdecombe dance the samba.

You can't make a year shorter than it is. And my work won't let me take 4 weeks off in a row so what am I supposed to do anyway?!

Split your holidays into 2 blocks of 2 weeks take last 2 weeks in december then the last 2 weeks in june. Then every move the days back by 2 weeks every year (if your accrual rate can get you the days) but its not so important when you do this . What is important is that you do it.
  • funny you never mentioned all this about you falling for this when the thread started .

No, but back then I assumed you were an adult and could working it out for yourself when presented with the facts.
please Joe which gets a better return on birthdays

a birthday every 12 months or a birthday every 11 months????

A birthday every 12 months of course, you get older slower.

Once you grow up and realise that birthdays don't mean cake and presents, just another year older, you will realise this.

You are just still at the age when another year older mean more cake and presents, and your can't wait for the next years. To us adults, another year older means just that, one more year gone and one closer to the grave.

You'll know what I mean one day.

just think of the holidays like your birthday presents
you get a birthday every 11 months while others get their birthdays every 12 months

long term who gets more presents???
  • A birthday every 12 months.

After 70 years, if you have a birthday every 12 months you will be 70 years old.

After 70 years, if you have a birthday every 11 months you will be 76 years old.

Which would you rather be 70 or 76 years old?

As I have said, you are a child, you think more birthdays mean more cake and presents. Us adults know more birthdays mean we are getting older and close to the grave.

We stopped seeing the cakes and presents long before you were born.

so you have had 70 presents I have had 76 presents 10% more at least
  • so you have had 70 presents I have had 76 presents 10% more at least

As I said, more interested in the number of presents than the number of years you have left to live. Always the sign of a child.

    Me neither

You can't make a year shorter than it is. And my work won't let me take 4 weeks off in a row so what am I supposed to do anyway?!

Then you have the other factor, life gets in the way.

Most people couldn't save a whole years worth of holidays to take in one got because !!!!!! happens.

One of the kids is ill so you you have to stay at home
The car breaks down so you can't get to work
the washing machine breaks down and you have to take a day off to wait in for the repair man.
And a million other things that go wrong every day.

You can't ring the boss and ask for a free day off because it's an emergency, you don't dare pull another sicky, so the only thing left is use a paid holiday.

Only an adult knows that, a child thinks you can work a whole year and never need a day off.

This doesn't really work out does it? You can, of course, celebrate your birthday whenever you like, but if people send presents every 11 months then they are as dim as you appear to be. You have a holiday entitlement every year, worked out pro rata for every month/ week / day you work for a company. They may allow you to "assume" holiday you have not yet earned, but at the end of the holiday year, you will only be allowed what is written in your terms and conditions. Not a minute more! When you choose to take these holidays is up to you, but you will not be paid more than the company allows. You cannot gain by taking these holidays earlier each year. Unless the company is administrated by fools, you will only get what you are entitled to. End of! No scam, no argument!

there are many ways of accruing holidays
check the direct gov link by searching google using words holiday accrual calculator

I am not assuming holidays just working 10 months so I have accrued 25 days then taking them at different dates during the year which get earlier every year. If it helps then try the opposite, book your holidays 1 month later every year and see that you only get holidays after 12 months work. While everyone else works 11 months then get 1 month
  • which is better
start with company on jan1 take all of january paid holiday (if it were possible)
next year take all of february as holiday and you have now worked all 12 months with one month off
next year take march and you have done it again worked 12 months between holidays
your mates who take december off every year never have to work more than 11 months without a holiday
who is making the smarter move ????
