    in comparison to someone who works 11 months and takes the 12th month as holiday

    all the companies had at least a 2.2 days per month accrual so after 10 months I always had enough days to take 22 days which in normal months is enough to get the full month holiday

  • Ok, I am entitled to 25 days per year, accrued at 2.08 days per month. After 10 months, I will be entitled to 10 x 2.08 days = 20.8 days. By the end of the 11th month my entitlement would be 22.88 days, so I guess I could take the 11th month as holiday, right? If allowed to carry over the 12th month, then 10 months later I could have the month off again, right? But, I have earned that holiday, yes? If I just took 22 days holiday each year, or sometimes 23, I would still have 2 or 3 days left over each year, so where do I gain from this? If I eventually got 2 months holiday in one year, then I could see the logic, but this isn't going to happen, unless your company let the remaining days accrue over 10 years. This is unlikely, so where is the gain?
  • In all the companies I have worked for holiday entitlement was accrued on a days per month.

    The same for all of us.

    The holiday year was relevant to keep count of number of days taken every year was not greater or less than the accrued entitlement .

    So, you are admitting the HR dept kept track of of your holidays and made sure that the "number of days taken every year was not greater or less than the accrued entitlement "

    So in actual fact you have never gained anything.
    So starting work in january and taking 1 month holiday in november has always been perfectly acceptable

    Of course it's acceptable, but you haven't realised that if your holiday year runs from jan to dec, and you take your whole years entitlement in Nov, you don't accrue any holiday when you work dec, that holiday is deducted from the the days you took in nov. So in jan you start the year again at zero.

    As I said earlier, you fell for something that looked good at first glance, but didn't look deeply into it.

    Of course not, but now you've used up the holiday you would have accrued in Nov and Dec for your Oct holidays. So when you work Nov and Dec you accrue no holidays.
    So the period worked between holidays is only 10 months.

    You still haven't twigged, have you? You might be taking your holidays earlier, and thinking you are getting something for nothing. But after the holiday, the time you have to work to pay back those days gets longer.

    To be honest, I don't think you have ever worked, I think you are just taking a break from you homework, or nintendo. If you had worked, you would know that you only get a set number of holidays per year, and once you use them up you get nothing until the next year. It doesn't matter if you use them in Jan or Dec, each year you get a set number of holidays and no more. If your holiday year runs from jan to dec, and you take all of jan off, it just means you have to work the next 11 months not accruing and not being entitled to any holidays.

    If you take holidays before you've earned them, then you work and not accrue any more until you have paid back what you took in advance. If you take holidays in advance and them leave, they deduct the money from your final wage.

    you take december I take december both of us work 11months between holiday
    next year
    you take december I take november you work 11 month I work 10 between holidays

    And I work the month of december not accruing, or being entitled to any holidays. You work the months of November and December do the same.

    The only difference is I worked 10 months, had a month off then worked 1 month not accruing any holidays. You worked 9 months, had a month off then worked two months not accruing any holidays.

    We both worked the same number of months and had the same number of months off. Neither of us gained or lost anything.

    Your maths are bad on this one, and I'm sure I told you to check the batteries in your calculator!

  • I think Eyeinthesky works under the same conditions I did. The holidays accrue per month and if you have accrued the days you can take them when you like. So Eyeinthesky will now start booking holidays earlier every year . Even if you only do it by one week per year on every holiday you will gain.The bigger the reduction you can get and still accrue enough holidays to cover the month the better.
