You may have "gained" less time between holidays, but how much time have you lost by posting on this thread?:A0

You asked for someone else to comment but you don't seem to have looked at my previous comment
Looking at your latest post you seem to indicate that you can only take 1 month per year so in my example person A only gets 5 holidays in the 5 years equating to 125 days off, so is losing 25 days holidays if accruing at 2.5 per month
But, if I am reading this wrong, please correct me and if I decide to be Person A in the future please advise when I need to book my holidays ( I am assuming that I can only take 25 days off each month)
2011 - I take my holiday in October
2012 - August
2013 - June
2014 - April
2015 - February
2016 - What month should I book my holiday?
thank you
so in 2011 you worked 9 months to your next holiday
in 2012 you worked 9 months to your next holiday
So now it depends whether your company has a rolling holiday year and allow you to take holidays as soon as they are accrued.Every month you accrue 2+days so in some companies it would be possible to take the accrued 20+days holidays between February and December 2015 at the end of 2015
So now you can see by taking holidays earlier you have reduced the days worked between holidays to 9 months . You get about a 4 years benefit with that strategy . You could keep taking January and February until you leave the company. So now consider other strategies
sorry if I missed your earlier posts but I am a bit busy this morning and my multi tasking is not what it should be.

mumbles_one wrote: »so you agree there is only a 10 month gap between holidays???
My aim is to only work a total of 10 months between holidays for the whole year . I am happy that at last someone that understands the term rolling year and holiday accrual has appeared.
so please answer the test question.
If you only have 1 day holiday per year which day would you pick to give you the least number of days worked between holidays??
1. would you pick the same day every year???
2. would you pick an earlier day every year???
That's easy - I'd start with the last Friday in September to give me time to fly out to the sun and time to get back on the Sunday. Unfortunately some years I'd not be able to fly there and back the same day but each Friday I have off I'd get a nice weekend. So I think I'd take the last Friday's in September - May, for the first 20 years, (while I am younger) then I'd holiday a day backwards in May. I could spread them out more but I'd miss the sunshine. Not sure I'd like to miss Christmas day though
But as I'm not going to work for a job with one day off a year, what do I do next year? As per my question?

the test question
Lets suppose you only get 1 day per year holiday and you plan to stay with that company for 60 years .
what is the best strategy to take the one day per year???
is it best to take your day on 31/12 every year ???
or is it better to take your day earlier every year???
by about 6 days earlier would be my guess.
What's your guess???0 -

Ok, so if HR agree to a rolling year, I can have a holiday in December 2015 using up my accrued 25 days - so that year I have 2 holidays of 25 days taking me up to 150 days over 5 years - so I have not missed out.
I'm not going to change to that system though, as I prefer my 30 days per year and prefer my holidays in the summer and a bit at Christmas too. June is a lovely time to go away - and I get 3 holidays in the sunshine a few weeks away from each other and only 4 months between my holiday in August and Christmas and then only 5-6 months till my holiday in May or June, as I do vary it a bit. Not sure what I'd do with a holiday in October or February though

for example:
this year if you
took first 2 weeks in July last week in Aug and last week in December
2011 first 2 weeks in June last week in July and last week in November
2012 first 2 weeks in May last week in June last week in October
when your summer weeks end up in January your winter weeks move to the summer. I love skiing or cycling so there are always good places.
I like summer in UK whether working or holidays.
april/may sep/oct Spain is best
feb/mar skiing in Canada
nov/dec/jan Miami/Rio/Buenos Aires

When I started working it was in June and I took my first holiday that August after working for about 6 weeks (no need to accrue before I took any leave) and since then I never have had to wait more than 6 months for a holiday. I could take it at any time during the leave year subject to the requirements of the company.
All you seem to be doing is taking your holiday after you have accrued enough leave for a months holiday, or splitting it - but still after you have earned enough per month to do so.
I have a new idea though, take your holiday after you get a payrise, and you will earn more money while on holiday than previously but not working for it.

If I only had one day off I would pick the same day every year. The Tuesday after Easter Monday, as that would give me a good long weekend, Thursday afternoon off courtesy of HRH, Good Friday off, saturday sunday and monday off then take my holiday on the tuesday to extend the holiday by one year.
As easter wanders around a bit, some years my holiday would come sooner and some it would come later, but it would always be longer
EDIT: Forgot to add that mumbles has never worked, so doesn't understand the concept of tagging a holiday onto and existing holiday period to extend it.0
