Free Items Worth £5 from PCWorld/Currys...

"i hope that everyone gets a chance of having a deal but you have to realise that we all get some things some times and sometimes we dont"
That's precisely my point. If we are all going to get a fair chance of being the lucky one who gets something, then people who grab it all for themselves and cause the provider to withdraw the chance from others are not playing fair either with the provider or with the other punters. And as I said above, the more this happens the fewer chances there will be for ANYONE to get a deal, because promoters simply won't do it in the first place. They don't need the hassle. They will find other ways of enticing people into their stores. This sort of thing is so popular precisely because it's free money as opposed to free stuff; but like Tesco and the coupons, it won't happen any more if promoters feel people are taking them for a ride.
That is, the whole point is to get people through the doors of their store, people who feel good about the company because they feel they're getting a free gift, AND THEN FOR THOSE PEOPLE TO SPEND REAL MONEY when they see stuff they want that they wouldn't have seen if they had never gone to the store. If sales don't go up as much as Currys/PCW projected they would, because people are using fraudulently obtained vouchers to get say £50 or £100 worth of stuff, then they won't do this sort of promotion again. And everyone loses in the long run, including those who thought they'd done so well this time.
There, and I didn't even mention morality.0 -
Well, I never shop in Currys or PC World (they are overpriced and the customer service is shocking). Because of this £5 voucher scheme, I've purchased a £100 item from them (which I've been shopping about for and couldn't find any cheaper) because they were giving me the £5 off. I'm sure their mark-up on this item well and truly cancels out the free pack of batteries and the printer paper my family got from them.
Morality? That's a laugh. Do you think it's moral to walk into a shop and buy a PC for a grand when there are people starving on the streets? This is consumerism - you don't NEED the free £5 from Currys to survive. It would be different if you were fraudulently claiming benefits - taking the money away from people who actually need it. Don't bring mortality into it when you really mean "sour grapes"!0 -
I can see this is pointless. Some people just aren't going to get what I'm saying. To those who do, thank you for restoring my partial faith in the innate decency of people. To those who don't, I hope that when someone does you down you don't complain but take it as karma for the times you cheerfully grabbed the goodies for yourself while saying you didn't care what happened to other people and that they must take care of themselves.
Helping one another out? Don't make me laugh.0 -

Taking away from other people. That's sheer greediness0 -
TBH not upset at all if currys lose money on this. Would not have set foot in the store other than to get a freebie, even when we did the service was awful. The SA serving was a !!!!!!, he remembered us from when we took sisters faulty computer back and they refused us any of our legal rights. They are truly awful.Barclaycard 3800

why does every forum about a really good deal/glitch/freebie turn into an argument? because some got more then others? and the ones who missed out now talk all about "how we don't care about other people"... Do you think PCW and Currys do care that some households missed out because of others?! no they don't! everyone looks after themselves and I think it is good so... if I have too much I can give to others or a charity but I won't say no to a 5th voucher because someone there might need a toaster more then me!0

Two phrases apply here... "first come, first served" and "you snooze, you lose"...
Should I pass up the chance of a second or third voucher just in case someone else might not have one..... how long should I wait.... what if I leave a brochure and a millionaire comes behind me and grabs it, I need it more than him....0 -
Thanks for featuring this limited offer in your weekly email Martin0

Oxford (Botley Rd Retail Park) has tightened right up - only one per customer.
Mum got a code for me, & is now passing the word around to local family & assorted charity ventures. How MSE can you get offline?! :A
The lads devour batteries at Christmas, so when the voucher is emailed through, I shall reserve all the 8 for the price of 4 AA batteries funds allow, then arrange the rest of the grocery shopping.0 -

We do get what you're saying, we just disagree with it. It's your opinion, you have a right to it but you shouldn't ram it down everyone else's throats.
What you are trying to do is make people feel guilty for taking advantage of an offer and telling them that they are selfish. Maybe you would feel better about a system of means-tested offers?0
