Cool, what one did you get?

    .

Cot/bed though - very cheap and great reviews

For those buying Ikea matresses just check they will fit. Ive had problems before with an ikea crib. They no longer did that model or matress when SIl gave me it. I had to get a foam one from babies r us and cut it to size. Also Ikea single matresses are smaller than normal single beds. And with DD i had the Ikea changing table and couldnt get a standard changing mat to fit it. All the changing mats were about 3 inches too big, i ended up using the floor or my knee most of the time.
Ikea did a blow up changing mat but i wanted a comfy foam one.

They may have changed things now as ive only bought drawers and a dining table from them recently. But with a cot you wouldnt want even few centimetres gap.

The cot mattresses from Ikea are Continental size which will fit a lot of cots, but not cot beds from what I can gather.

Good point, I hadn't thought about the size of the changer, I quite like the Gulliver one, but I just checked and if anything it seems to be a little larger than the change mats I looked at. So looks like they've changed things to fit a standard size. Phew.

ETA - Standard mat wouldn't fit on the Sniglar changer though.

IKEA mattresses are 60X120 and most cotbeds are 70X140 :)

As for cloth versus disposable nappies. Im not sure how confident id be using the cloth ones on a day out etc. So I plan to have disposables for that and for during the night. I just want to at least use 3 or 4 cloths during the day when im in the house, or if only going out for a bit. More to save money than the environment tbh.
We used cloth if we were at friends/family or at church but if we went out other places (like shopping or days out where we would be changing in the car or behind a bush or something) we generally used disposables as they were easier to put on with the baby balanced on your knee instead of on the floor.

yeah thats the one wee had. We didnt realise and then DD was lying at a terrible angle. It meant she wasnt safe as the side couldnt hold her flat when she started to move.
I kept it as storage and never used it again.

thats good the matresses will fit.

I get fed up with my Ikea duvet covers too as they are larger than a normal double, so I always end up with the empty bit. Not sure why I still love Ikea, but I do lol

My original cot (13 years old) was from Ikea, kept it and used it for 3 children, but took it back to them this year so this bubs would have a new one with new mattress. Ikea have a policy in place, where if you return your old cot (the funny size ones, that they used to do) they will swap it for a like for like in value cot as long as you buy a mattress. So i spent £40 (i think) on the mattress plus bought a protector and got the cot, which i think was about £90 for free :)

Labour vibes to Giz and Chakani - don't want either of you taking over my mantle as longest at the top!

EA - could you email me one of those cakes please, I need a sugar top-up before LO's afternoon feed and our cupboards are bare of any tasty treats.

Just to reassure everyone I'm not lurking here because I'm still pregnant - I just popped on to say I have posted my birth story in the usual place if anyone wishes to read it - it's an eventful but positive one.
We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.

Our duvet covers are the right size and we still have this problem.

  • Afternoon all. Just catching up on a few pages, so appologies if I've missed anything.

Got up late today (bliss) and went out for aquanatal followed by lunch at the leisure centre with some of the other ladies, then it was home and showered before going out to the MW. Now got to decide whether to go out tonight or not and meet up with some friends. Hmmmmmmm

MW was lovely again, and a bit cross at the consultant and stand in midwife, as they'd both plotted my measurements incorrectly on my chart, so it looked as though baby had had a massive growth spurt, followed by no gorwth at all. She said that it was really bad because it could've ended up with me being taken in for checking as to why baby had stopped growing. She's offered me a sweep if I go over 40 weeks, and said that all I need to do is give her a call and she'll come and do it.

I saw you talking about me, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy :o So I'm going to get a bit sentimental for a moment (sorry). I was late joining this thread and stayed on the less than 12 week one for ages due to my excesive MS. I finally made the move to the 'big' thread and felt a bit like the new kid starting secondary school. There were sooo many 'older kids' all about to graduate. And now that's me. I'm the older kid about to graduate to parenthood. You've all been so great and supportive throughout this pregnancy, and that applies to the newbies right through to those who've already popped and had their babies. It's been so lovely to know that there are other people going through the same as me, and I'm not just a hormonal freak :D I've had silly questions answered, and plenty of reassurance when I was having bad days. Once sprog is here I'm going to miss you all

Anyway, enough of that, I've not gone yet, and I sort of get the feeling that sproglet has decided to settle himself in for a while, so I may yet go bold :)

    HMx
