Thanks ladies, I will check out Ikea and Mothercare for the mattress :)

The M&S blokes said that they don't have to assemble it, and any probs it can go back. They opened the box and checked all bits were there. So far so good. And it IS height adjustable :T Looks very nice actually, better than in photo

We may put it up later just to see what it looks like, then will be taking it to OH's parents for safe keeping (to go in their spare room along with our two seater and buggy/carrycot :rotfl:)

How exciting, two of the three large purchases done! Now got to find a mattress for a reasonable price.
  • I didn't realise the M&S delivery men were meant to assemble it. Do they offer to do it for you or do you have to ask? Mine is coming tomorrow afternoon :)

I got my mattress from ikea and it's good one!

Almaya, I was worried like you regarding movements for weeks and its only been the last 4 weeks or so that I have been able to really feel much at all (I'm 29 weeks tomorrow) before I was 24/25 weeks I hardly felt anything and was stressing BIG time!

I have had days over the last 4 weeks where I have felt baby a few times, and quite strongly, and other days when I have felt not a lot. However, I am feeling the baby move more often than not now, and stronger all the time. So from my own experience, I'd say don't worry, we just have lazy ones! Or they are lying in a position where they can't be felt as easily. I will say though that if you are at all worried at any stage please just call your midwife, stress isnt good for you or baby. x x

Is that the technique where you try and potty train baby or have I got completely confuddled?
If so was it a success?
It's not so much potty training as not "nappy training" them. (Newborn babies tend to prefer not to use their nappies which is why they are notorious for spraying everywhere as soon as you open the nappy to change them.) In the same way that you are aware of signs they are hungry and offer them food when they show signs or if they haven't fed for a while, you give them toilet opportunities when you are aware of signs or think they might need it (and if you use nappies as back up change them immediately to avoid them getting used to wearing a wet/dirty nappy).

In terms of "success", I'd say it provided the following benefits:
    • despite sensitive skin prone to dryness/eczema, the only time she had nappy rash was one time when she was on antibiotics which messed with her insides and made her poo lots
    • after the first three months, dirty nappies were fairly unusual (such that often when we did have them, it was a bit of a shock and I had to think about how to deal with them rather than it being a "routine" thing)
    • after the initial glut of nappies, we had fewer nappies to wash (and were able to use muslin squares rather than terry squares so they took up less of a load in the washer and dried easier)
    • toilet training wasn't a thing we had to specifically do - it just happened gradually and naturally over time without any particular thought or effort having to go into it
    • I'd say feeding was better because of it. Usually after about 15-20 minutes of feeding she would stop. If I took her to the toilet she would wee/poo and then afterwards would feed again. Sometimes there would be as many as four toilet stops during a feed but if I hadn't been doing it I probably would have just finished the feed after that first 15-20 minutes thinking that she must have had enough.
Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.

I like the mattress from Ikea that GL mentioned, thanks hun. I might go for that one. Also like the £60 one. Hmm.
They aren't available for home delivery so we will have to take a trip down there one weekend. Our nearest one is a couple of hours from us, but we can have some food or something in the cafe :)
