  • Washable nappies don't have to be expensive. We are buying these.. http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Terry-Nappies-6-Pack_35238/

We have been given some fancy ones but as I refuse to use the tumble dryer terry squares are much more practical for rainy days. You do need either wraps or plastic pants but they don't have to cost a lot. Yes, you can spent a lot on washables but you don't need to :)

Two things i'm absolutely convinced about in this pregnancy - i'll be early and bubs is a boy!
No idea why, just had this intuition since I was about 15 weeks.

I was a first/only child for my parents and was 4 days early. OH is the youngest of 4 and I've no idea if he arrived on time *off to text MIL*- we were both around the 7lb mark though which pleases me no end :D
I have a friend who was so convinced she was having a girl she decorated the room pink and then it turned out to be a boy. (This was in the days before routine scans.)

OH and his brothers and parents were all 9/10lbs so I thought we might have a big baby but she came out fairly average.
Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.

  • I have heard of the technique Susan - glad it had some benefits for you and DD.

My DD toilet trained herself but at a much later age (18 months ish)

I'm not sure how practical it would be for me to try this (just thinking of being out and about aspect) but it's interesting to hear about

I didn't realise the M&S delivery men were meant to assemble it. Do they offer to do it for you or do you have to ask? Mine is coming tomorrow afternoon :)

They don't have to assemble it, but will do if you want them to :) I think it looks very easy to do, must be easier than my double bed which I managed to put together all by myself when I lived alone :) OH will do it anyway :rotfl:
The only reason I didn't get them to assemble it for me is that we want to move soon, so got nowhere to actually put it!
I got my mattress off amazon - looks great

Cool, what one did you get?

Must say I am very tempted by the Ikea mattresses. They also have good priced storage solutions, so may pick some other bits up at the same time. We have bought several things from Ikea over the years and they are always very good quality. I would probably have got my cot from there if M&S hadn't done this fab deal.
  • Just caught up....

The first poo, I advise coating baby's bum in vaseline as it stops it sticking, it really is like tar.
I am seeing my consultant after my 20 week scan on 16th Feb but the midwife commented on this and asked why he wanted to see me like it was unusual - I said I didn't know (perhaps to give me date/book in for elective section?)
Either way will give her a call as I'll have to get hold of the MATB1 either way before my scheduled 28 week appointment ;)

Consultants can issue MATB1's as well, I didnt see my MW forever so had to ask my consultant and he was happy to do it. HTH

Both mummies and mummies to be - what are you plans for LO/s should anything happen to you and your OH? I've been giving this a lot of thought lately as DH and I haven't prepared any wills - we always thought we would wait for our first child to come along first. I'm thinking that I will probably ask my sister and her OH to have legal responsibility for baby should anything happen to us both - but obv I need to speak to her first! The child will have Godparents that are friends, but I think if anything were to happen, it's best for the child to stay within the family. I know its a bit of a morbid topic, but thoughts please :)

We wrote a will once DD arrived, it cost us £110 and we werent married at the time. The basics of ours... If either I or OH died then the living parent would take over for DD. If we both died my mum would have DD, if she wasnt alive then it would be my uncle, then my brother. It was important to me that MIL had no chance of getting DD. We cant get life insurance (that we can afford) for OH due to his stroke but we have a death in service policy where we work. We will need to update the will as we are now married but are going to wait till sproglet arrives to save on fees lol.

Yay 17 weeks for me today! :) Also, exactly a month until the anomaly scan so will hopefully find out baby's gender (I have a funny feeling bubs is male but not sure why)

Gonna read back in a minute. Hope everyone's good. :)

For those buying Ikea matresses just check they will fit. Ive had problems before with an ikea crib. They no longer did that model or matress when SIl gave me it. I had to get a foam one from babies r us and cut it to size. Also Ikea single matresses are smaller than normal single beds. And with DD i had the Ikea changing table and couldnt get a standard changing mat to fit it. All the changing mats were about 3 inches too big, i ended up using the floor or my knee most of the time.
Ikea did a blow up changing mat but i wanted a comfy foam one.

They may have changed things now as ive only bought drawers and a dining table from them recently. But with a cot you wouldnt want even few centimetres gap.

As for cloth versus disposable nappies. Im not sure how confident id be using the cloth ones on a day out etc. So I plan to have disposables for that and for during the night. I just want to at least use 3 or 4 cloths during the day when im in the house, or if only going out for a bit. More to save money than the environment tbh.

When I add up what i must of spent on nappies and night time pull ups on DD and DS over the years, its scary!

My mum bought me the terry squares, liners and plastic pants 6 years ago for DD as I was deteremined to use them. But once she was here I was scared of her :rotfl: I was scared incase I stabbed her with the pin. I was overwhelmed and had PND. Using dis[posables was one less thing to think about.

Im not sure why I didnt use them with DS, I think I forgot I even had them.

But now im a lot more organised and not scared of babies anymore. If I can manage to use even a few cloth nappies each day, then I will still save a fortune.
