Those who had a home birth with a pool - how did you fill it up? Am I being really dense but running from bathroom to living room with buckets of water will take hours! I have got my heart set on a home birth now - just hope I don't have to argue with Midwife too much to get it!

I got a hose with mine so I used that as was in a flat and the living room was near(ish) to the bathroom.

This time I will be using said hose from kitchen to living room. Simples
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

would also add that if you do get hose check the length might be better to just gho buy one from b and q at the right length! and a tap to hose filter thingie ma bob - where you put it on the tap to make the hose fit - you can also get the two way ones if you have 2 taps.

I cant imagine midwife will be too bothered tbh all midwifes seem happy to do home births these days - just think its less strain on the resources at the hosp and its a little more chilled for them - instead of running from room to room they can just chill at yours with cup of tea lol :rotfl:

Thanks annibee I shoud have thought about a hose!

I already asked about a homebirth at my booking in appointment and was told categorically no as I live in a flat! Tbh at the time I just accepted it but since then I spoke to some of the ladies from the parents thread and have read a lot of information online which shows there is no reason why I cannot have the birth I want just because I live in a flat. It's not a huge issue to me and of course if I have to go to hospital I will but I just cannot see the reason why I was denied in the first place.

    Hiya

I'm having a bad day today (sorry for the moan) keep wanting to be sick, bubs is really low, causing back ache and i'm so bored.....

OH made me walk dog with him before he went to work, so feel better for that, although I was only shuffling.... And dad is coming to take the boy to swim club later this afternoon, so I might go with them to get out for a bit (just got visions of being out and my waters going!)

    Anyway, enough about me...

Giz - happy due date, hope bubs comes soon... :j

RBG - Hope your meet up went well, you're braver than me.... ;)

Apricot - Love the carriage, not too keen on the price tag ;)

OTE - You having mummy cuddles??? :p

Flower - Hope everything has gone ok this morning and you have now met bubs.... :D

Anni - Thats what we're here for, so we can all give each other support and advice.... :p

IceIce - Not sure where in the country you are, but i'd speak to a agent about letting the house out for the time being, until the economy picks up....

Sammy - the plan is not to die :p as someone says (think its Chakani) we have life insurance in place, house would be paid off and kids would be well provided for, however they would go to in laws in the interim, its something that we need to discuss a bit more really, I try to put these type of conversations off as i'm not good with the death thing (proper freaks me out) however going to have to bring it up when bubs comes.....

Chakani - Labour vibes coming your way....

PC - Growing vibes coming your way...

All this talk about growth scans are new to me, my MW has never said anything. With DS I went to 38 + 6 and he was 5lb 14, I dont think my bump is any bigger this time, but i haven't had a scan since 20 weeks...

Gonna go and have a bath, bit of a pamper session, before DS comes home, had a bit of a do with him before he went to school, so think thats bothering me too....:(

Why would living in a flat prevent an home birth??? was your MW having a bad day???

From what i've heard, a lot of mw's prefer it these days than an hospital birth, as less intervention....

  • I'm only having growth scans because I'm high risk & there is a chance our little boy wont grow as big as he should according to his dates. They are not needed during a normal pregnancy so enjoy your lac of scans & see it as something positive :)

That seems odd I was in a flat with ds and they were fine although they did mention access for an ambulance crew (I was on ground floor anyway) so maybe its something to do with that? is there a lift in your building and are you high up?

If you want a home birth I would just stick with that as I have said before If you refuse to go the hosp they wont just leave you they still have a medical duty to deliver the baby so they have to come do it lol. Although obv its a bit less stressfull if you can have it planned with your midwife being a lil happy about it.

Another note on the birth pool - malke sure you get the fill/empty kit (will be called different things with different companies) anyway it has a pump to empty the water out too as you dont want to have to be doing the bucket thing after giving birth either!!

My friend who lives in a top floor flat with no lift was allowed a home birth :)
She had to go to hospital anyway because baby was breech.
