Hi All! Not had time to catch up much as still working full time and been busy at home too getting things ready for baby. We are sorted now, ready and waiting! CONGRATULATIONS to all you new mummies, the pics I have seen are fab
and hope all the rest of you are feeling well
3 weeks and 3 days to go until D-date. However had the midwife yesterday and baby is still breech, and she doesnt fancy the chances of he/she turning around now. Got scan on Monday 7th and if baby is still breech then they will discuss options and book a c-sectionI know this may sound crazy to some but I was looking forward to going through labour and feel quite cheated at the prospect of just going into hospital, being operated on and then the baby being there. Plus not keen on the recovery time either. I know there is nothing that can be done about it, and will do whatever is best for baby, but the thought of it keeps getting me down. Anyone on here know what I mean? I hope I havent offended any of you who have had (or are going to have) c-sections.
Also, anyone else experienced breech babies after 37 weeks turning??? I am guessing it will be obvious to me if baby makes a move to the head-down position?
As always, thanks for reading and any advice/words of comfort will be greatly appreciated. This place is my first port of call when I have questions etc, you are all fab!!!
I just emailed my friend to ask as i know her bubs was breech right up til the end. He turned all by himself at 38 weeks, so there is still hope.
She was getting on all fours and rocking etc. she said it felt weird when she felt him moving. She went on to have a natural birth.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

janinie, I remember reading someone posting that baby turned right at the last minute (can't remember who though, brain like a sieve today). Think they were just about to have a c section and did a final scan and baby was the right way around, but definitely remember reading something along those lines so there is hope for you yet.
There are things I have read to get baby to turn - spending time on your hands and knees is one I remember - have you tried this?
Flower - I know what you mean about induction, I am worried I will be the same (can't offer advice tho, sorry). Have you tried Clary sage oil - my friend is convinced 10 drops in her bath (waters broke), then 12 the next day (labour started) got things happening for her.
Sharkey yay for cleaner and for going out for food - this maternity leave doesn't sound too bad after all0 -
And as for the polish girl, I would have smacked the boyfriend soon as he walked in, unforgiveable. The male midwife was lovely, I'd have no problem with a male MW, mind by time I get to that stage Dr Crippen could be at the end of the bed and I wouldn't care less.I think the more I hear about it the more I'm hoping to go to a birthing centre, we have one I could go to but OH is panicing that its further from us than the hospital, and the transfer to the hospital (if anything goes wrong) is 45 mins.dustystar02 wrote: »What is the reason for not being on your back when you give birth? I've never heard why it's discouraged.
- your uterus presses down on some vein which reduces oxygen supply to it and the baby (which is why you shouldn't sleep on your back in late pregnancy either)
- it makes the birth canal narrower than other positions which makes giving birth more difficult
- it means you are pushing the baby out against gravity
- it can increase pressure on the perineum and increase the risk of tears
If you think about when you are TTC and trying to keep stuff in, lying on your back is the best way to keep it in and if you are the other way round loads more stuff comes out so it makes sense that lying on your back is not the best way to get something out.
I can probably find you a few links/references if you want but I'm too lazy to do it at the moment. I do know that the NICE guidelines say that women should be encouraged not to give birth on their back so there should be some references there.galvanizersbaby wrote: »lol! :rotfl:- I don't think anyone will force you to lie on your backgalvanizersbaby wrote: »Also another thing I meant to ask - have any of you been offered a 28 week growth scan routinely?
I was chatting to a colleague yesterday who is further along than me and she seemed to think that you have to request the scan?!
I had assumed that any growth scans after the 20 week scan were offered to women whose baby's were small for dates?!hngrymummy wrote: »Now just got to eat more raisins and prunes as these iron tablets have bunged me up againAny question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Am I the only person who is bothered? I specifically put in my birth plan that I wanted the minimum people necessary and I was extremely irritated while I was giving birth that I had five people there hollering at me to push.Baby Giz born 6/2/110

I don't have to have a sweep do I?
I had mine at my 41week MW check. At the 40week appointment, she said, I could have one the following week if I wanted and to think about it.
When 41wk apointment came, she asked me what my thoughts were about the sweep. I said, I kind of wanted it done but didn't feel 100% comfortable with having someone up my foof. :rotfl:
We went through all the usual blood pressure, pee pot check, feeling the baby's position, measurements and heartbeat check.
Then she said: ''Shall we go ahead with the sweep? Just say no if you're not sure, you can change your mind as many times as you want.'' :T She's a chilled MW.:)
So Gizmodo, no pressure to have a sweep.0 -
I totally agree giz & susan - I have briefed OH about the number of people, making sure that everyone isn't shouting at once and making sure I don't end up on my back (if at all possible). I just think I will have enough to cope with so OH will have to stand up to them for me!0

Dried peaches are very high in iron. (I think most dried fruits are but IIRC correctly peaches are the highest followed by apricots.)
Alas, peaches make me _pale_ even when I'm not PG.
I guess I'll ask the MW tomorrow if she can recommend anything to help.If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -
I don't have a birth plan, but I don't want 5 people shouting at me to push. Just OH and the 2 midwives. I remember the OBEM the other week where the woman seemed to have loads of people shouting at her. I definitely don't want that.
One of the reasons I chose an homebirth this time, is not seeing the same midwide twice when I had DS. Everytime the door opened it was someone different - at one point OH lost it when half a dozen students walked in.....
At home, one mw comes out at the point when you would go to hospital/birth centre, and stays with you, then another comes for the baby when you're about 10cm's.Challenges - repay all credit cards by end of 2015Starting the savings for retirement :rotfl:
