Can you still drive if your in labour? My OH sometimes works far out into the country and never gets phone signal. My hospital is literally 3 miles from my work and 5/6 miles from my house

    I don't think so....you might have a contraction and crash!

Have you spoke to your midwife about this? Because of all "lady" problems half my appointments are at the hospital with the fertility clinic and the rest are with midwife at GP surgery and on the hospital appointment cards it always has printed " Transport for patient arranged/not arranged" and they score out relevant part.Is there no way you could get something organised through hospital. At my hospital local people volunteer through the red cross and take people to appointments.
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

I'm thinking of doing something along those lines. I searched online and there's a huge amount of people that are just like 'You must know someone, you've had 9 months to prepare' etc. I don't know anyone here apart from my cousin and if he's at work then he could be anywhere in the county. Also baby is due in July and I think that cousin might be going on holiday then anyway. Obviously you can't get an ambulance and a lot of taxi firms don't take you either. I'm totally fretting about this. It's not like the hospital is nearby either. It's a 45 minute walk normally so in labour, I'm guessing it would take me longer and if I was in pain and it was the middle of the night I can't see it being a fun experience. Sorry people, I'm probably having a panic over nothing. It's just the only thing I'm completely panicking about. I'm not even scared of giving birth anymore, just getting to the hospital to do it! :o

Will there be anyone with you while your in labour and give birth Pixiepops? - will your OH be able to get there?
I would think with a first pregnancy you should have plenty of warning of onset of labour but can see why your worried :(

I didn't drive when I had my first and my ex hb worked an hour and a half drive from me but it wasn't a prob due to c section - you just go in at prearranged time so it is all planned so to speak.
  • Yep course ;)

I'm naughty as I don't get paid till Friday but they don't take the funds till they despatch if I recall correctly ;)

I've had La Redoute and Verbaudet stuff in the past for my kids mainly and it's been really good quality though expensive unless in the sale but you can't usually get free delivery on sale items and I hate paying delivery especially if you've only got one or 2 items.

I convinced myself anyway :D also they are on Quidco so 5% back hopefully

we've got the BIL on standby to take us to hospital. he works from home a lot so hopefully will be around, and hopefully it will be a slow labour at the start so no mad frentic rush.

OH doesn't drive and if he is at work will have to meet me and my mum at the hosp.

BIL said he'll take us as long as we go in my car as he has just got a new Audi and doesn't want it ruined :rotfl:
    Fair enough!

Not worth risking my life or bubs, lol

My reaction would be the same. I would be worried that she would get frightenend at seeing me in pain, you would maybe then get stressed out about it. Also I'm sure it will be fine but if anything had to go wrong and more medical intervention was required how would you and your daughter cope with that?

On the other hand, it might make you feel calmer knowing that she is there and just kind of get on with it IYSWIM?

Ohh difficult decision, are you having a home birth?

I wanted a home birth, but oh is completely against it. I don't think i'll change my mind about having her there, but i will sit down and talk to her about it.
My previous labours have all been problem free and quick, but you just never know whats going happen.
Right off to work now. Must watch OBEM this afternoon.

hubby has said that from mid Feb he's not doing any over night shifts with his volunteer work so I know I will be ok if it happens in the night and my BF is down home half and hours drive away

Yes - think that's when stock is due in! not much of a wait then!
That's the only prob with La Redoute - stock levels - I only ordered stuff that was supposedly in stock now - will wait and see what happens
