Any recommendations?
My (beloved) Corsa is some fancy sports model and the guy at the Vauxhall garage who I spoke to last night said I should be able to get a good price for it cos it is in demand (save the huge dent on the side - oops!)
We were thinking about an Astra but I kinda love the Rav4's. (I think they look like barbie jeeps)
OH doesn't drive so is just going on what looks good but I'm trying to be sensible. Plus I have NO money at all to contribute so either will just swap outright or OH will contribute which he seems willing to do
I've got a Rover 45 which is about same size as an Astra (fits everything in boot ok and roomy enough for 3 kids)
Probably not the most stylish car but does me ok
OH is changing his car as he has a Volvo coupe so only 2 seats in back and we will need 3 - he is thinking about a 4X4 but I don't fancy driving one- a lot of the mum's I see on the school run drive them - v badly I might add

Sitting here waiting for MW to call and arrange today's sweep. For those who are asking "what is it like" - I would say a little uncomfortable, but less so than a smear test. Although remember mine have been attempted sweeps so far, they haven't actually been able to do the sweeping bit, cos cervix was closed.
Good luck Sarahangel - smooth labour wishes.
Re getting to the hospital in labour, during our antenatal classes the midwives recommended that everyone take a taxi as they say its better to have your OH/birth partner in the back of the car with you, not erratically trying to drive and check on you at the same time.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -

Sorry to hear your CT is playing up, mine is getting worse and the gel the doc gave me does nothing! It is so painful too isn't it?
Yep Dusty quite painful today but am just getting on with it lol....have my sexy splints on so it is easing it a little
Have no idea on the car front as hubby has a company car and drives a mondeo but he's getting the new Passat at the end of this year (had one 3 years ago and loved it soooo spacious) I want a wee Diahatsu when I pass my test but not sure how that's going to work with a baby now lol

It's a small world
Have you spoken to your midwife about joining groups etc...when you've had the little one? - it sounds as though you could benefit greatly from building a social network locally and attending groups is a good way of meeting people and you all have something in common.
When I had my DS I didn't drive and although I was lucky in that I had friends and family nearby I still felt very isolated at times (most peeps were at work while I was on maternity leave)
I should have got out more and made an effort to make friends with other mum's but I didn't bother for various reasons and ended up suffering with PND0 -

Good luck with the sweep MI3 sweetie....sending you soft open cerviz vibes (wow that sounds soooooo wrong lmao)
We live 5 minutes from the hospital so I am lucky on that front and we were told last week at AN class that we can part inside the security barriers so hubby doesn't need to worry about parking (apparently other OHs had parked in the main car park and made their in labour wife walk the 10 minutes it takes to get to our maternity :O)The pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 20110 -
Thanks GB, ive hopefully ordered those jammies and a long top.
Pixie, good news about the CBT, hope you find it useful and it helps you find some answers.
I also worry if I have to get to the hospital in a hurry. My Oh works 45 mins away, plus I have the 2 kids./ I know no one here either.
im hoping for a homebirth, but still have to consider getting to hospital.
The MW said dont worry, theres always an ambulance. I think she meant if it was a medical emergency. i know labour is just that, but you will have time to get there. I would call a taxi and not tell them. I cant imagine them chucking you out the taxi once your in.
I finally managed to apply for that job. I called the Jobcentre to see if they had more details. Turns out im an eijit and spelled the womans name wrong. Her last name was Shread but I had ShredIt didnt click at all. not sure if I deserve to get a job after being such a numpty lol.

I don't know many people here and we don't drive.
When DS1 was due I told my midwife we didn't drive and asked about ambulances.... she said we are perfectly entitled to ring one. HOWEVER when I was in full blown labour and rang the labour ward she told me to order myself a taxi as they most certainly did not dispatch "blues and twos" ambulances for women in labour and i could have a very long wait for their transport to arrive. PLUS id I wasn't in labour (ohhh belive me I was!!!) I would have to make my own way back home as they'd not admit me and ring/ wait again.
THANKFULLY a girl I work with didn't mind me ringing her at nearly midnight and begging her to take me....... the not quite legal turn out of the road and the police escort to the maternity hospital (under blues and twos) was fun tho. I will ALWAYS remember the look on that policemans face when I started screaming!!!! (she also only got a slap on the wrist thankfully)
If you are taxiing it girls make sure you have worked out how you are getting home.... don't forget not all car seats fit easily in all cars and the last thing you want is a taxi meter running in the pouring rain while your partner and the driver try and fit it in. (said friend also came and picked us up :T)
I am hoping she will do the run again this time (if not I think my neighbours may get a rude awakening) and am sure whichever end up doing it will happily take DS to look after at the same time.~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~On a seperate note has anyone (who already has children) confirm something for me and my friend.
We were watching one Born every minute last night and couldn't believe the fuss that woman was making over having the cervix check. From our experience it was uncomy YES but it wasn't painful! There seem to have been a few of them who have reallly winged about it as if it is the worst pain in the world.
In fact in our mat hospital checking you is the 1st thing they do before they show you to your room (not in the corrider obviously they have a side room). so you have no gas and air option to use - you have to put up with it.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0
