    On a seperate note has anyone (who already has children) confirm something for me and my friend.
    We were watching one Born every minute last night and couldn't believe the fuss that woman was making over having the cervix check. From our experience it was uncomy YES but it wasn't painful! There seem to have been a few of them who have reallly winged about it as if it is the worst pain in the world.
    In fact in our mat hospital checking you is the 1st thing they do before they show you to your room (not in the corrider obviously they have a side room). so you have no gas and air option to use - you have to put up with it.

    I kinda thought the same, getting it checked I didn't think warranted G &A . I personally do find them a bit painful and when I was getting a sweep I wasn't crying but the tears did run down my face. They ALWAYs have problems with my cervix and when I went for my last smear I even found that a bit painful :o Not looking forward to them this time but unfortunately it's just part and parcel of giving birth.

    I suffer from vaginismus and for all you know the girl last night might have had it or something similar. Having an internal scares me more than giving birth. Unless you've got it I don't think you can ever understand. For years I've been battling this and it was only when I had my second smear test in which I was in excruciating pain even though the doc was fab and used the smallest implement that she referred me to a psychologist who then went on to help me and my OH finally DTD so we could try for a baby :) DTDing is still painful, but getting better, but I'm still worried about having to have an internal at the hospital as I've been told I will _have_ to have one to get in the birthing pool (unless I'm so far there's no doubt I'm past the 4cm).

    I just wanted to put the view across from us vaginismus sufferers.. :)

    Cripes that sounds awful Giz
    I find cervical smears unpleasant but can't imagine anything that scary.
    I hope you don't have too many probs with the internal for the birthing pool - hopefully the contractions will take the edge off x

    Aww MV and Lillian, love the pics (even the 2nd one Lillian but it is prob better without sound :D)

    Hngrymummy would you mind telling me colours for the boys names I mentioned (if they are okay with you)? Liam, Finlay / Finn and Jacob / Jake. I am intrigued :D hope I'm not being too cheeky! Xx

    I certainly can:
    Finlay - light blue and yellow with a darker green at the beginning. I think theres a little white in there too - just a hint. Finn is darker green with a tiny smidge of yellow at the end

    Jacob - one of my favourite colours. It's a lovely light blue, and has a touch of green at the end. Jake is a slightly darker blue.

  • I don't know many people here and we don't drive.

    When DS1 was due I told my midwife we didn't drive and asked about ambulances.... she said we are perfectly entitled to ring one. HOWEVER when I was in full blown labour and rang the labour ward she told me to order myself a taxi as they most certainly did not dispatch "blues and twos" ambulances for women in labour and i could have a very long wait for their transport to arrive. PLUS id I wasn't in labour (ohhh belive me I was!!!) I would have to make my own way back home as they'd not admit me and ring/ wait again.

    THANKFULLY a girl I work with didn't mind me ringing her at nearly midnight and begging her to take me....... the not quite legal turn out of the road and the police escort to the maternity hospital (under blues and twos) was fun tho. I will ALWAYS remember the look on that policemans face when I started screaming!!!! (she also only got a slap on the wrist thankfully)

    If you are taxiing it girls make sure you have worked out how you are getting home.... don't forget not all car seats fit easily in all cars and the last thing you want is a taxi meter running in the pouring rain while your partner and the driver try and fit it in. (said friend also came and picked us up :T)

    I am hoping she will do the run again this time (if not I think my neighbours may get a rude awakening) and am sure whichever end up doing it will happily take DS to look after at the same time.

    ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
    You have a good colleague there Chickywiggle ;)
    I didn't realise there are so many relying on other forms of transport.
    Its not something I had given much thought to.
  • I found the internals when if established labour really painful. I've also had a sweep & yes that was fine, the two were very different for me. Also when in established labour at times the midwife is just having a gentle check to see how many cm dilated you are, or she may be trying to feel more, that's when it really hurt. So yes, there are times when G&A is needed for an internal during labour.
    Oh I wish, I'm so tired. I do have a sleeping baby next to me so will maybe have a wee lie down with her. Back from docs so just as I thought it's viral but he did see a slight inflammation and swelling at her glands. Hate feeling I'm wasting their time but doc said I absolutely done the right thing since it had gone on for so long. Poor wee toots. :(
