I'm worried that I might get almost... ganged up on, for want of a better phrase. Just because I haven't done this before doesn't mean I don't kow what I want. Well almost...Episiotomy, tearing and stitches terrify me. I'd rather be sectioned. (Although I know I have no control over tearing.)
GarnetLady, I'm with you on this.
I have written in big bold letters on my birth plan that I do no want forceps delivery full stop. And since nearly day one I have been repeatedly telling my other half that the only medical intervention I will agree to is a C section. Anything else is without my consent.
I am lucky in that we are both rather assertive and he can also be blunt with it. Hopefully his blunt assertiveness won't be needed but it is reassuring.:p
Although my fear is that he won't be able to attend the birthbecause he can't physically make it back home.
Psychologically I really don't think I can handle an episiotomy, I would rather go straight for a c-section over forceps. Haven't discussed anything with OH yet but I'm hoping he will understand and back me up.0 -
Perdi, I just use normal pillows - this time my bump is bigger, so I just have one between my knees at 39 weeks, but last time, I had one between knees, one under bump, and one behind my back, which I found good. I preferred several smaller pillows that I could arrange, move, throw out of bed as I wanted.
I have a V-shaped pillow, which I love, but for supporting my back when sitting, I can't get on with it for sleeping. I used it loads when sitting up in bed BFing last time, and it has been on our sofa for months now, for me to lean on. I got mine from TKMaxx, but they are sold all over the place.0 -

Thanks Dusty. I've tried to get on the Tesco Direct website 3 times since last night but for some bizarre reason every time I visit that site my computer freezes and I have to force quit. Most inconvenient lol.
I haven't seen the link for Argos - so will go have a look now.

Thank you annibee I have been very worried about this... we live in a rented property, no double glazing and the windows are so old that some of them you can't open because they've rotted. There's a horrible draught in the house at this time of the year even with the heating on. I'm going to make sure baby has a black out blind and heavy curtains in the nursery to keep the draft out... we keep on at our landlord but I don't see anything being done anytime soon and I don't see how we can move.
sounds like the flat i was in with ds1 when he was born it had damp and mould in the room single glazed windows and was f'ing freezing all the time. we had a thin hat on ds1 if we thought it was really cold but we just kept a check on him to make sure he didnt feel too hot/cold and he was fine. pop mittens and socks on if you think their fingers toes are getting cold and adjust layers of clothing/blanket to whatever you feel is right - your instincts will kick in and youll just know what to do honestly.I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

We can't get any help towards the NCT classes as OH earns just over the threshold for help. It's annoying as he doesn't earn enough for both of us, and yet earns too much for much help
That's so annoying
One final suggestion......With my NCT classes if I start them then go in to labour and have the baby, I'm not entitled to a full refund (only if I have the baby before the classes start). One of our class did go into labour early (although it stopped so no baby yet). I wonder if you could contact your NCT class leader and see if whether someone had their baby mid-course whether you could take their place for the rest of the course at a reduced rate? Certainly if that happens with me, you can come and pretend to be me for the rest of my course
One of my friends did both NHS and NCT and said that the ones she went to were both good, so hopefully NHS is like that in your area.
Someone please give me a jolly good kicking. I'm still not appreciating the fact that I'm having a baby in the next few weeks. I can't get my head around it at all. It doesn't seem real, and it's almost like I'm trying to pretend it's happening to someone else sometimes. If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -
Re sleeping, bedding and clothing - I totally agree with Annibee - don't stress, and every baby is different, so it will be trial and error. A pretty normal place to start would be nappy, vest, babygro, then sleeping bag or sheets/blankets as needed, depending on how warm the room is - you can add and remove layers from baby and bed until they are comfy. A finger down the back or front of the vest will tell you if they are too hot or cold - it's only common sense, not voodoo
I've never heard of a minimum weight for sleeping bags, but DS slept best swaddled for the first month or two, then moved on to a sleeping bag when he started not liking being wrapped up, so I will probably start off this way with this one too, and see how we go.0 -

Yum! - haven't had chinese in ages - might indulge this weekend for a treat!0 -
Perdi, it's a long straight one that my mum got me from Argos. I do want a v one, but for sitting up with, I think it would support me better than normal pillows.
The whole birth thing is contributing to my mini freak out I think. I've been in a terrible mood for the last 2 days. Grumpy and weepy is not a good combination really.
I also had to laugh at the booklet I got from the hospital. It has a list of what to bring in your bag (or more like what not to bring!) and it has at the end - Baby clothes if desired. :rotfl:
It also says this about bags -
