just a quick question for all those who are or going to bottle feed, ive been told most hospitals dont supply baby milk anymore and you have to take your own in??? 8 years ago with my son it was all supplied in the little glass bottles. they are trying to encourage people to breast feed.

I had my DS 8 years ago too and as you say it was supplied for you - they still encouraged breastfeeding though but as you say perhaps it's stepped up a notch and you bring your own bottle now? - be interesting to know!

lotty I think it must depend on the individual hospital - my local hospital has a cupboard full of those little glass bottles and you just go and get your own - that was the case when my niece was born a few months ago anyway. Maybe check with your midwife what your hospital does.
Does that mean you'd have to take your steraliser and everything with you?

It really does depend on the hospital to be honest, ours doesnt supply anything for FF unless mummy or baby is too ill to BF. Even then they have a stock of EBM for babies if mummy is too ill to BF but wants to. IYKWIM.

  • Coops i'd be livid if hubby wasn't there for the birth. It's the one time you need him the most there and is totally understandable that you want him there. Hold your ground hun and hope for some leg room! My hubby has to go away next month but it's just for a week. I wasn't happy about it but i'd have been less happy had it been around my due date. Luckily hubby is as stubborn as I am and wouldn't have agreed to it that close anyhow! :D

Thanks for the advice all of you :) RBG I hadn't thought of Matalan / Peacocks so will have other places to try if I can't find what I want in Primark :)

Taking an early lunch as don't want to be battling the 1000 other shoppers in there and trying to protect bump at the same time.

Dusty yay :) relieved to hear it was nothing to worry about - hope you'll excuse me not copying you with the hairyness :p

Digital, we are doing the NCT classes and so far I'm impressed - we have 6 evenings and a Saturday BF session. Its good partly to meet other people who are due the same time as us.
The classes weren't cheap, but when we looked into the prices it included an optional something like £30 for a years membership to the NCT, which we didn't pay at the time. Felt a little bad about it but wasn't really sure we could afford it at the time. I think if you check on their website it tells you what they have near you and prices.

I would mention the other ones to your MW as soon as you see her again (have just realised how un PC I am assuming MW is a woman!).

yeah someone said they supply a cold water stereliser , and i have to take milk in, i have family in different places up north and se and they are all saying the same, one person got round it by breast feeding until she came out then changed to bottle.

Was talking to my OH about the birth after watching OBEM the other night and he thought the plan was - he drops me off at hospital when I go into labour and I "give him a ring" when the baby is about to be born - um I don't think so!
