Thanks Makeit3 I remember trying to a while back before we even got PG and it was so confusing I gave up... will try again over weekend maybe!
Are you meant to fill it in as if you are already off and receiving child benefit/maternity pay?
Edit> Just looked at it and filled in as if baby was born 5th April, put no income for me but £125 odd a week for maternity pay for me. Then £21k for hubby. Seems to say that we'd get £10.50 tax credit per week.
Do you get it in cash or would OH get £10.50 extra in his wage packet?:):)

Overall how much is everyone squirelling away for the maternity leave time?
I currently transfer £250 from my wages as soon as I get paid. £100 goes into my own savings which are for my use and £150 goes into the baby fund.
Then at the end of the month anything I have left in my account gets transfered into my savings split between the two accounts.
It will definitely be a help to have the money there when I am on maternity - I just wish I'd started doing it when we first started trying nearly 2 years ago
Ok am trying not to worry. Bubs seems to have been very quiet and am starting to get a little concerned over lack of movements. I think I felt some small kicks last night but usually bubs is pretty active about 10 - 11am and I've not felt anything at all today
Have tried drinking a really cold glass of water, still nothing. Had one of my rolls, nothing. In desperation I am eating an apple as they always seem to set bubs off but again nothing so far
I don't like to cause a fuss but how long should I leave it before I phone someone? I know they say foetal movements can be reduced at around this time because of the lack of space in there (I'm 31 weeks tomorrow).
I can't have a lie down as I'm at work - am here till 4pm and I really can't leave earlier as the Heads PA is off and I have to cover her work when she isn't here.
Come on baby just give me a couple of kicks pleaseOne day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170 -
Dusty hun here's the calculator link http://www.moneyformums.co.uk/planning/Budgetcalculator/tabid/77/Default.aspx you are NHS are't you??? You can ask for your pay to be calculated and then split evenly over the time of your ML, I have done that so the pay I get at the end of Feb will be the same every month until the end of September for me....I did this so that I knew what I had coming in from work monthly and so that I could budget properly...still don't know exactly much it will be monthly but at least it would give you a better idea than the way they pay it in stages.......
Lablover if the hospital tries to bully you tell them it is your decision and you have thought long and hard about it, they can't force you to do anything.....my hospital actually supplies a few bottles for you if you are being kept in after CS etc

As a pregnant woman you should be allowed to take breaks and lie down if necessary at work, especially at this stage - that's what all my Risk Assessments at work said. Is there a sick room you can go to for half an hour and lie down?
Aside from that - if you need to leave earlier, your health and the health of your baby is more important than work (sorry for sounding stern). If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -
Thanks for all your replies re-breast feeding. EA I may just do as you suggest and BF in hospital ( mind you my hospital is like a conveyor(sp) belt they just fling you out hours after birth) Apricot and I think maybe sparkle mentioned the thermometer sleep suits, my mum saw the similar baby suits on Dragons den and thought they were a great idea, i think I may just get one of those grow bag egg thermometer things. Another thing Im going to invest in is a slumber bear, have seen loads of mums on here raving about them. They are little bears that detect if baby wakens and play sounds to sooth them back off to sleep , you can even record your voice so it plays your singing a nursery rhyme , aawwThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

Sparkle, I'm saving as much as possible, but I figured as mother & baby classes seem cheap (£3 a session ish) I should cope on £20 a week 'fun' money for me & bubs. I'm not sure about the cost of swimming but would love to do that as well, that's a good point actually I should find out costs for some of these things & see if we can afford them. Having said that I might find that I don't actually have that much as some of it needs to go towards food / bills while I'm not earning - but I'll do my best!!
I'm not really sure though, what do the rest of you think is a realistic figure??
EA, glad you have some exercises to help with your pelvis pain. Was it worth going to the doctor about do you think (guess you don't know 'till you try out some of the exercises!)0 -

although I still have to pay my loan, car insurance, mobile phone bill so sadly it's not only just groceries i have to pay.
by rough calculations my current costs (loan, phone, car insurance) comes to £90 per week and i think i'll get about £200 in total per week on mat leave but what that is after tax i have no idea. that will then have to cover baby costs and groceries - i have no idea if that will be ebough.
hey ho - i guess once OH doesn't have his tea on the table cos i couldn't afford the groceries, or his child is sat in clothes too small for her cos i couldn't afford new ones, or - heavens forbid - he doesn;t get a birthday present from me cos the money went on nappies - he'll do something about it
If I assume the £200 includes £20 CB and £10 Tax credits based on that you won't loose more than £10 in tax and nat ins (post April 5th).
I would tell him that the baby will cost £60 a week so you want a direct debit of £30 a week going in your account that will give you £220 a week - £90 loan etc = £130 a week for baby and food -should be very do-able. The £30 a week will seem less like your fleecing him too than asking for him to build-up a lump sum in advance.AKA: PC

Im not saying you should rely on family members , but when my nephew was first born we either used to go along with SIL on day trips (zoo, play gym , swimming pool) and pay for all of us or if she said she was taking nephew swimming or to soft play we ofter gave her the money. It saved us buying nephew clothes and toys as he had hundreds of bothThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
