Im not going to be saving anything prior to baby being born but I will be concentrating on paying of credit cards - which is possible before July and will therefore be one less bill to pay out. Car insurance is up for renewal in May and I think I will be aiming to pay that as one lump sum rather than having a dd every month, also my car is still on finance due to end July 2012, by July this year there will be £1500.00 owing which OH has said he will pay off (he is putting money away each month until then).

By making these changes Im hoping that I will be able to survive on SMP - also hoping to not go back to work fulltime but I guess I will have to cross that bridge a few more months down the line and see if I can justify it.

I currently transfer £250 from my wages as soon as I get paid. £100 goes into my own savings which are for my use and £150 goes into the baby fund.

Then at the end of the month anything I have left in my account gets transfered into my savings split between the two accounts.

It will definitely be a help to have the money there when I am on maternity - I just wish I'd started doing it when we first started trying nearly 2 years ago :o

Ok am trying not to worry. Bubs seems to have been very quiet and am starting to get a little concerned over lack of movements. I think I felt some small kicks last night but usually bubs is pretty active about 10 - 11am and I've not felt anything at all today :(

Have tried drinking a really cold glass of water, still nothing. Had one of my rolls, nothing. In desperation I am eating an apple as they always seem to set bubs off but again nothing so far :(

I don't like to cause a fuss but how long should I leave it before I phone someone? I know they say foetal movements can be reduced at around this time because of the lack of space in there (I'm 31 weeks tomorrow).

I can't have a lie down as I'm at work - am here till 4pm and I really can't leave earlier as the Heads PA is off and I have to cover her work when she isn't here.

Come on baby just give me a couple of kicks please :(
Hi Fairy, I had a reduction in movements around the 30 week mark and I remember lilian did and possibly sharkey, so it's quite common. I found I had quiet days every few weeks, but then he'd be back to the normal kicking and squirming. I'd try the 10 count test tonight and if it failed then I'd call the midwife. Have you tried a can of coke/lucozade? Something very sugary? Try slouching in your work chair, I know it's not a good position but a bit of slouching got my baby moving!

Apricot Im only putting money away because we still have a small loan for car , but its too much for us to save up and pay off before the baby is born. Im hoping to come back to work 3 days a week, my SIL has offered to take baby for the three mornings so I only need to pay childcare 3 afternoons. So money wont be great when Im back to work , but we will make it work. My OH gave up smoking , so pround of him so we have that extra amount aswell

Afternoon everyone. Would comment on previous posts but my brain is like a sieve today.

Grrrr. OH's family have decided to leave the dog with him tomorrow as they're going to london so he can't come to see me this weekend. Which would be fine but he was unable to see me last weekend too and this is all his mother's doing. She actually despises me.

So after that I mention to him that we need to sort out a savings account for baby and he mumbles he already has a savings account. I am close to snapping at him as he is the most irresponsible person with money and if it's left in his hands, come July there will be about 50p in baby's savings account.

Needless to say, I am ready to murder him. Was reading back through the bits about breast feeding. I honestly think I'm going to bottle feed or even combined feeding, if I feel brave. I've just always had an aversion to breastfeeding, I don't know why. And bottle feeding formula can't be that bad. I mean I didn't even get formula when I was a baby, I was bottle fed cow's milk as that's all that was available. Obviously I will not be feeding bubs cows milk but I think I will bottle feed.

Oh and I think it might have been sparkle asking about bump sizes. I'm just over 14 weeks and no bump yet. I mean I look a little bit bloated or like I've had a big meal but that's about it really.

Hope MV and Lillian are enjoying their mummy cuddles!

Going to try to stomach some lunch now.

Overall how much is everyone squirelling away for the maternity leave time?
I'm like you Ema_o in that I have some cash aside and want to feel as much as possible that we're going to mange ok. I would love to do swimming classes etc, we'll see what we can afford.
I've managed to save £4k since January 2010 and also had £1k already so got £5k. I'm still not sure if this is going to be enough for normal bills/mortgage for 12 months. I think time will tell a bit better. Mum keeps telling me how you just seem to naturally cut back on things. However my petrol bills were never huge only being 5 miles from work and now I'm at home the heating is on, when it wasn't before. The washing machine and dryer is going to be used loads more, but I guess I can hang clothes outside in the summer to minimise the dryer spends. When we first moved here we were on a top up electricity thing...and it cost 50p to run the tumber dryer for an hour!

I've given up on the swimming classes idea. Water babies is £150 for a term of 10 sessions and has to be paid up front. £15 for 30 minutes is rediculous. I'd planned on just taking baby swimming just for fun but now my friend is telling me I can't because the water is too cold? I need to look into things a bit more.

Got my free Avent bottle and HiPP comforter :j:j

I'm not allowed to visit him as he lives with the dreaded MIL and she has banned me. I wish I could say I was joking. The plan is he'll live there whilst we save up money to get our own place. I have to be around family at the moment anyway as I need the support to make sure I don't become depressed again. I'm just very cross and as I already have a cold I wasn't in the best of moods this morning. So I was very angry on the phone and told OH that he has to tell his mother that she isn't his only commitment, especially now with bubs on the way.

    Thanks for the replies :)

I drank almost half a litre of ice cold water and I think I have felt a few little prods in the last 40 minutes. They were a lot more gentle than normal but at least it's something for now.

Will try some chocolate in a bit - I don't want to overload him/her.

That has put my mind at rest a bit but will keep an eye on them for rest of the afternoon. Might try the lying down trick when I get home and see if that helps as usually it's when I'm lying on my side that it really starts movements off.

I hate it when baby is being naughty and playing games with me!
