Wasn't counting clothes!!
HIP grant
working tax credits
child tax credits
child trust fund Think this is axed come January, sorry.
am I missing anything else?
People on a low income could look at sure start, you can get grants for stuff.
Honestly, dusty if you can manage just you and OH with the loss of your income for however long, the babe will not make a lot of difference unless you go craaazzzy.
BTW the baby wipes that have a rigid plastic lid are good for DH's who never remember to close the lid and let them all dry out. Not very green, though, admittedly. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Whole family is aware. They don't exactly condone it but don't condemn it either- as far as they're concerned it just proves I'm a good wife. OH is waiting to use it against him at some point in the future- but I think four years is enough leverage personally. It was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement when he lost his job years ago, but he has no motivation for moving out/contributing as long as OH maintains that he's the only one allowed to mention it to him. Last time I voiced an opinion and "interfered" with BIL's affairs (literally- told him if he was going to cheat on his wife to at least keep it out of my house/car/general knowledge) it nearly ended OH and my relationship, so really I have to put up and shut up.
Maybe your only option is to have another couple of babies so you'll have no room for him;)AKA: PC

To be honest if your BFing for the first 6 months then your child benefit of £20.30 a week should cover all the weekly essentials very easily.
You may qualify for a sure start maternity grant if you qualify for child tax credits and have an approximate income of £16K a year or less plus the first £100 a week of your SMP doesn't count towards your income.
It's £500 and can be claimed up to 3 months after the birth.
Please look this up though as I've written it from memory and you'll need to check your individual circumstanceAKA: PC

All wipes are 1/2 price so dig out any vouchers and stock up like crazy everyone, and bare in mind they will sell out of the best value ones which tend to be their own brand and the 4 packs of branded.AKA: PC

I swear by the sainsburys own brand wipes that have already been mentioned...They are fab! I will def be stocking up on these. Thanks for the heads up on this I've been waiting for the half price toiletries for a while
When I was expecting Ruby I borrowed a tens machine from my local Sure Start. Do any of you know if they still lend them out? I just went in asked if I could have one & they put your name down to say that you had taken one away & they said to return it within 3 weeks. If you hadn't given birth in that time you just contacted them & they would put a note on the list to say you hadn't given birth yet. I swore by the tens machine but then Ruby was back to back & all my pain was in my lower back so it was a god send! Very MSE if they do still let you borrow them...Def worth an ask!Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0
