I remember reading a while back on this thread (probably before I was pregnant :o) that I think it's New Zealand they recommend matress wrapping. Something to do with toxins and gases given off by mattresses which babies are far more susceptible to. I'll see if I can find a link somewhere...

I would think if you did that then there wouldn't be such an issue with them sleeping on their front...

Not sure what I think myself, but I'll probably mattress wrap as an extra precaution.

I've not heard of this before. Interesting, however, like you I'm not sure what to think and I'm a little worried wrapping a mattress might make it more of a carbon dioxide trap, and thus more of a threat.... that said, I need to read more.

    Thanks for the link.

Thanks for that link Adelicia thats very useful.

I'm just so confused with the conflicting advice and scared to death I'm going to cause my baby to choke or something

I know... it's scary when you are told one thing by one person and another by another. I swear, about 50% of the things I'm told are good for the baby in one place I'm told are terrible for him/her in another.

I think it's a case of going for the most scientifically and widely supported understanding at the time, and that's the best you can do. Being 32yrs old and this being my first child and very few of my friends having kids I don't have a lot of people I can ask!

Yes I feel the same. I'm 37 and this is my first too. That mattress wrapping looks interesting but leads to more questions that it answers for me. I'm still confused about the back versus front and even lying on the side issue!

    Evening ladies x

Congratulations to all new mummys x

Hope everyone is fit and well.

My back is flaming killing me, I can hardly walk because of shooting pain :( DH is just laughing . Decided, in my wisdom to start ironing clothes at once instead of as and when *is lazy :D* because DD starts nursery tomorrow and just thought it would cut out the faff. Anyway stood an ironed our entire wardrobe contents, so my own fault really. :o

I am sure this baby is going to come early, can't remember what I was like with DD but he seems really far down, feeling lots of little movements in lower pelvic area, plus shooting pains. Anyone else due round same time getting this or do I need to pack my bag? :rotfl:

  • Hi Everyone
I'm new to the thread, currently 15+4 and technically expecting my 4th, however due to two losses this will be my 2nd baby.

    Welcome and congrats :j:j:j
    Hi Lady Bumps :)

am on the side lurking as am in work and don't normally get to post but am sneaking this one in as I am quite concerned :S Have been having braxton hicks since about 9.30 am and am soooo tired it's getting painful and I don't know what to do to stop it :( any suggestions welcome

Hope they get better soon, how many weeks are you?

ice get used to ignoring your Ma, it won't be the first thing!

classes mine with #1 were in a chavvy area, the m/w was desperately patronising, and kept saying "Daddy this" and "Daddy that" when three of the mums clearly didn't have the Dad around and were under 18. Very old fashioned and annoying, showed crap videos too.
They can't all be that bad, though!
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

Oh god i remember the sleeping issue last time its a stressfull time - i spent 2 weeks not sleeping and just watching ds1 sleep coz I was terrified and everytime he breathed differently I panicked. I ended up having him on his back/side we was propped up with blanket and he was fine! HEs a fabulous sleeper though has slept through night since day one so he may have made it easy on me lol!!!
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

  • Me waves at Hitchins....hiya bump buddy....sounds like we have both been having a day of it lol.....spent a lot of the day getting braxtons and my bf was on and on at me to contact the midwife as she was concerned I was actually in labour lol...I convinced I was grand and that there was no point in bothering them lol

am just out of a lovely long bath and it was the best thing I could have done as it has stopped the BH and my back pain has calmed and I was able to see the amount of moving alien is doing which are also quite low down.

(((BIG HUGS))) now go get those feet up or if you can get yourself into a bath xxxxx

Aww, thank you for noticing lil ole me!! :grinheart Have only just started feeling human again after my mega cold - apparently it wasn't flu according to my medically qualified husband! ;) Literally only started feeling better yesterday, but poor Moo got it on Sunday night :( Surprised she resisted it for so long really... Anyway, am still here and reading occasionally, just quietly lurking cos I've nothing much to add and thought no-one cared :rotfl:

Hope you're ok Nic? And everyone else too :) xxx
