We picked up our push chair from Mamas and Papas the day after New Year's Day. Very pleased with the service as we only ordered it on Christmas Eve. They had quoted 14th January for the delivery, but they rang us on New Year's Day to say it had arrived!
We took it to OH's parent's and put it all together to check it works, and its all good, and now back in its box waiting for the boy to arrive and use it
Double checked with M&P about their guarantee, and it starts from your E.D.D, which I gave her, so no worries there. I know there were some comments back quite a few pages about when the guarantee starts, and some confusion. Might help someone else!
Also was chuffed to get the Gro Egg I wanted in Mothercare for a very good £16.99 (they had £5 off). I wanted to get it using my Tesco Clubcard vouchers in the voucher exchange thing, but by the time I'd got them exchanged they had gone out of stock. Elsewhere the cheapest I have found it is £19.99. So, I saved a few quid :T
We got a coloured plastic storage box, to store the rest of the baby's stuff in, from Homebase. As we're moving in a few months (hopefully!) I can't sort out a nursery or anything, so bub's stuff was just put in a corner in spare room. It is now in a lovely box which he can use for his toys as he gets older :j We have quite a few things for bubs now, building it up steadily. Still need to get a car seat and base, some bottle/sterilising/breast pump stuff, a cot (which we'll try and get second hand if we can), a mattress and nursery stuff. May try and get a moses basket if I can find a cheap second hand one.
Congrats to the new mother's on their new arrivals, and welcome to all the newbies :cool:0 -
Thanks ladies. I'm sure I can get more support/info from you lot and Dr Google but as it's my first I figure it can't hurt. Plus it would be good for OH to hear what's going to happen as he really doesn't have a clue. He's never used the Internet  and so just hears the horror stories from his mates.
They are held in the roughest part of town so I fully expect it to be full of chavs but you never know. We may even make some friends.
Would be good to get more familiar with community MW team too, but I'll be going with an open mind.0 -
Oh my gosh. Back at work today and feel totally shattered! I'm also considering getting a T-shirt printed saying
"Yes, I am getting big"
"Due 15th March"
"No, I don't know the gender"
"Last day is 4th Feb"
Seriously, much as I love bumpy, it would be nice to have the occasional conversation about something other that him/her! I'm still me you know... same person who has worked with you for the past 9 months. You used to be able to talk to me about a whole range of things.
I feel a bit guilty for feeling that way, but when you have answered the same questions 15 times by lunchtime it makes you feel a bit of a one trick pony.lilian1977 wrote: »
EA - you watch the Vampire Diaries right? I've just started season 2 - I don't understand xxxxx? Sorry - trying to say that without spoiling for anyone who hasn't seen it and wants to so have whited it out!
Vampire Diaries is the one rather trashy bit of TV I love, did always have a soft spot for bad vampires though
Re your question in white.
Think it's supposed to stay in the body for 24 hours, so I think J was outside this. Plus (And I'm remembering so I might have times wrong) but perhaps the magic ring bought him back to life before he had a chance to be 'turned'.
Honestly, I don't just lurk and pounce when I see threads about vampires.... sometimes they are about werewolves too.0 -

But your area might be different, we didn't learn any labour tips at all as it was mainly stuff like 'dont put a baby near an open fire' and team building lol.
this made me :rotfl::rotfl:
so your now equipped with team building excercises to ensure maximum bonding with newborn and a fire guard? xx
hopefully your's will be a bit better dusty.
I went to one last time around in which we sat in a room and were told how to time contractions and then shown around the hospital and labour ward (As I was having a homebirth I was a bit at a loss)
To make it worse one of the women kept asking about all these weird (highly unlikely) things that could go wrong which is fair enough if youve got concerns but in a room full of other emotional mums to be it felt a bit awkward listening to her ask questions like
"what if I push so hard I faint and what happens if I poo on its face will it go blind?!"
needless to say I did not return to the rest of the classes - I did however manage to give birth to my son and bring him up for the past 3 years - job done lol
I might see about aqua natal classes or things such as that as it would be nice to get to know people in my area as I dont know anyone really (having moved here a year ago from manchester)I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Hi all
Wow loads of posts to read back on..... Been back to work today and i'm shattered, really tired and i've had that horrible pain in my back and ribs most of the day..... I've agreed with my boss to work until 26/01, but this might have to be brought forward if this pain carries on!!!
Been to midwife today, no worries over my iron levels, can still have my home birth and she's coming to see us at home on 22/01..... That will be my last antenatal apparently  it puts me at 38 weeks, i dont mind, but thought we saw mw every week once we hit 36 weeks???
I mentioned the perineal massage and she didn't comment either way. although she did advise me to get RLT in tablet form.....:rotfl:
Oh and all i need for my homebirth is a plastic sheet/shower curtain, a bucket and....... a torch :rotfl:look on hubby's face - priceless:p
Welcome to the newbies and hope those back to work today have felt better than i did!!Challenges - repay all credit cards by end of 2015Starting the savings for retirement :rotfl:

Evening ladies, hope everyone is OK
I wonder what people's opinions are on this. We are advised these days to put baby to sleep on their back, feet to foot etc. however my mum says it's best to put them to sleep on their stomach so that if they are sick they dont choke.
What does everyone think? Confused.com lolBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

Mum mum has the same to say.
They used to say to put them on their bellies, but since the "back to sleep" campaign was launched in the 1990s SID (cot death) has halved.

When you think about it, advice has changed on a lot of things... and most of us are in our 20s-30s & 40s now, so our own mothers advice is 20-40 years out of date. Obviously babies don't change that much, and there is a lot we can learn, but some things its best to pay heed to the modern guidelines.0 -
Thanks for that link Adelicia thats very useful.
I'm just so confused with the conflicting advice and scared to death I'm going to cause my baby to choke or somethingBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0
