Some tips from the net RBG:
- Drink lots of water. Dehydration can make your muscles spasm, bringing on a contraction. Avoid caffeine.
- Practice your labor breathing techniques. Rhythmic breathing will help to alleviate your discomfort.
- Lie down on your left side when you have a contraction. This should help to ease the pain and keep you rested.
- Change the position you are in or switch activities for a while when you have a contraction. A slight change in movement sometimes make the contractions disappear.
- Urinate when you need to. A full bladder can sometimes trigger Braxton Hicks.

Just booked onto our Parentcraft classes. Start 3rd Feb for 4 weeks. Anyone done them before? What should we expect?0
-
We did parentcraft for 2wks and (this is my opinion only!) i felt it was more aimed at stupid chavvy people lol.
But your area might be different, we didn't learn any labour tips at all as it was mainly stuff like 'dont put a baby near an open fire' and team building lol.0 -
Evening Lady bumps
Thanks for the suggestions from earlier am home now and hubby has the fire lit so that I can get for a bath after dinner then go to bed and maybe sleep tonight.
Dusty We start our parent-craft classes next Tuesday for 5 weeks and I have done some digging and the parents that have attended the one in my hospital all say they felt it was worth it. One girl went into labour after the 2nd week and she said she was glad she got for the first 2 as they taught labour techniques and did the visit to the unit on those 2 lol. We got a programme of what is covered each week just in case you can't make that week and you can get the info elsewhere xxxxThe pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 20110 -
I didn't go to my parentcraft classes as after the breastfeeding one I didn't think I would get anything out of it that I haven't already got from friends, Mumsnet books or this thread! I did go to the hospital tour though, that's definitely worth it.
EA - you watch the Vampire Diaries right? I've just started season 2 - I don't understand how the blood left Jeremy's body quickly but seemed to stay in Caroline's a lot longer? Sorry - trying to say that without spoiling for anyone who hasn't seen it and wants to so have whited it out!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Dusty, the NHS ones are rather hit and miss it seems. I got lucky, we had a small group, run by our community midwife team so it was good to get to know them better as well as meet some parents-to-be close to us. We didn't do any babycare stuff just what to expect from labour, pain relief, hospital tour and breastfeeding.
I didn't learn that much, but only because I've done so much reading/research myself but the midwives experiences and reassurances were good to hear.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0
