The pelvic floor muscles are much higher up, my yoga teacher says for labour its more important that you practice relaxing this muscle, the tightening is much more for afterwards to prevent incontinence. With perinneal you should be stretching the skin and tissue to help it become more flexible for crowning.
That's what my yoga teacher had told me as well, thanks.ticklepenny wrote: »Pelvic floor basically helps tighten up all of the areas downstairs. However the most important point of pelvic floor is being able to control the flow of wee! Any stretching you do with perineal massage just means that the skin is able to stretch more easily. However it shouldnt leave you saggy, so can be done in conjunction with pelvic floor without you ending up trying to ice skate uphillIYKWIM.
Thanks for that - I just wondered because everything I've read says to insert fingers to the second knuckle, and if I go that far I can feel a ring of muscle so didn't know if it was the same one!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

M-it-3 I think I'm ready..I mean I'm as ready as I'll ever be! I am excited about it all, but also scared.
Just had an email from another of my NCT girls, her waters broke this morning..I'm next on the list!!!
It's so weird as people who were due before you start actually giving birth..like you'r edging closer everyday..scary but thrilling too!
Lovely neat bump you have there garnetMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

Have had a discussion with m/w today and decided to go for a physiological 3rd stage, without the injection, unless I really need it.
Passed my GTT and iron test, which is a surprise, the iron thing, since I'm vegetarian.

What I was going to say, also there's the "shock" factor.Hi all grumble alert
Why oh why did I move into a half made house?!
Im dreading what the midwives will think when they do the home birth in my construction site of a house - yes we have walls missing at every turn and no kitchen units but I promise we are good people!! *sigh*
Don't sweat what the m/w think, they have seen it all before. We had no central heating, well...no heating of any description actually. And water running down the walls. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Awesome bump pic MV! We have the same bra :rotfl:0

Teenie, is the carpet loose on your stairs? If you think their unsafe I'd definently mention it to LL. You don't want to fall down them carrying a baby. I remember tripping over my slippers caryying a newborn ds. I had carpet burns all up my arm trying to protect him.
.
No the carpet's not loose, the stairs are just ridiculously steep and narrow. The LL wont do anything, he doesn't have to at the end of the day but I just feel if anything did to happen (fingers crossed it doesn't) to any of us, and I hadn't mentioned my concerns, we would have no comeback. TBH the stairs would never be passed these days and it was THE main thing I worried about when we moved in. Just have to be more careful I suppse, it has not done my pelvis pain any favours though
I have been wondering about some of the ladies missing too.
Fabulous bump MV, looks so much bigger with no clothes on:D

It does indeed look pretty huge in the flesh!
He really feels like he wants out of there soon! :rotfl:Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
... and you've got away without having an outie too - lucky thingWe Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0

grateful - thanks the house itself is safe and child friendly and theres plenty of room for the birth pool so really thats all that should matter.
must buy new liner!!!!! - Hopefully I will remember this on the 15th when I get paid!!! I also think it might be a good idea to dig out my birth pool and make sure theres no holes in it or anything lol.
teenie - our stairs are narrow and steep too a real pain in the backside just have to be careful, take it slow and use a handrail (you could even pop one in yourself as Im sure your ll wouldnt be able to tell)I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
