  • ok so my waters broke at 11.45am and I went to the hospital at around 2pm as they kept going. i am nearly fully effaced and 1cm dilated. They have sent me home and now I am getting contractions every 3/4 mins lasting about 40 secs( i have an app on my iphone) I phoned the hospital and she said i sound ok on the phone and to wait until it unbearable but i am finding it unbearable. I am sitting on my rocking chair and i am in agony. she said because it is my 1st it could take ages....

should i be at the hospital?

OOOh - how exciting looks like you will be our next MSE mummy. My MW said the first 1 to 5 cms take the longest (especially with a first birth) which is probably why they have sent you home. But if you feel you aren't coping well or would rather be back in hospital for reassurance then I would call the midwife and impress this upon her.

Sorry to hear that you're having so much stress with your house Chakani. The whole experience is so difficult and expensive! How long do you think it would take to get planning permission? And do you think they would even grant it? My worry in your situation would be that if he didn't bother with planning permission, what other problems will turn up?

I know how you feel about getting snowed in and being stuck giving birth at home - I'm worried about exactly the same thing. We live down a long no through road at the bottom of a hill which never gets gritted and were snowed in for several days last year. My back up plan would be to walk to the main road which would take about 30 min and get an ambulance to pick us up from there! Don't know what else we could do. There used to be an obstetrician living a couple of doors away but unfortunately she moved.

My other worry about labour is what I'll do if my OH isn't around and I
can't get hold of him. He works over an
hour away and is on call there overnight
about once a week. I have told my next-
door neighbours they are my backup if
he's not around! I assume driving myself
to hospital while in labour is not a good
    idea!

    Congratulations

Kataratarina, if you are not happy being at home and rather be in hosp then I'd say ring them again. I'll be the one at the hospital at every twinge from about 2 weeks before the due date lol.

I couldn't have every man and his uncle at the birth either. I plan for it to be just OH and midwife or any other medical personell I need. My mum thinks she is going to be there, I have news for her, she isnt. Just how to tell her?

Kataratarina - I think if you are having so much pain you should go in. After all, the midwife said come back when it is unbearable and it is. Good luck and let us know!

Chakani, can you not take an insurance policy out for the PP? I know you can sometimes take indemnity insurance if things don't go the way they should do. Might be worth talking to your solicitor.

That's what we had to do for our shed even though it is blatantly original just because it wasn't on the deed from when the council originally sold it. Cost us about £200.

You say 'Oi, Ma, I know you mean well but labour is hard enough without more people looking at my foof. I'll let you know when bubs is born and when visiting hours are. Until then, do me a favour and leave me with whatever dignity I can muster during a rather personal time in labour'

    Sorted! :D

Well, I just went to try to build DS's new bed to cheer myself up and make myself feel useful - and have failed completely and just made myself into a hormonal mess... :(

Normally I'm pretty good at DIY type stuff, but even though the instructions say it should take 1 person 30 minutes to do, I cannot make the bits stay together long enough to get the wretched screws in. Having a 2 year old "helping" isn't making it any better. Beans on jacket potatoes for my lot for tonight I think - I was planning roast duck, but I think today might be a day to keep things simple! Otherwise someone isn't going to survive til bedtime. Whether that someone is the toddler or the cat is pretty even money at the moment - they are wreaking equal amounts of havoc.

Thanks for the ideas, Susan and Fanta, and Eje, but our mortgage company and solicitor have both said no way without proper planning permission, as the permission needed is for change of use - they split the house off from a shop, so the other half of the building is a business. Apparently that makes it more complicated. The current owners have that insurance, despite claiming never to have known there was a problem... they were the ones that did the splitting. I have no idea if we're going to carry on - I'm so tempted to tell them to go stuff it after all the problems we've had, but it is a lovely house :(

Those of us ladies with a pierced belly button - when did you swap your stud or ring for a pregnancy one? My belly button has not changed a lot yet, but I can see the middle of it a lot clearer, so only a matter of time.

Also, can you recommend a good site that sells good ones please?
