    Welcome Sparkly :)

    And welcome Alfalfa :)

I've done loads of reading about delivering the placenta tonight and I don't know what to do now. I can see the pros and cons of both, but think the pros of natural win for me. But having read some birth stories can see why people change their mind and go for a managed delivery.

I think I'd like to go in with the aim of delivering naturally, but with the option of changing my mind :) Or at the least wait for the cord to stop pulsating and then have the injection.
If you're going for natural make sure you define what you mean by natural - my hospital apparently disagrees with the NICE definition and thinks that controlled cord traction is part of a natural third stage.

Oh god, never even knew you had to deliver a placenta. I thought it just 'fell out' unnoticed!!!! I'm useless.

Alfalfa - I mis-read your post. Your 24 weeks tomorrow, I didn't see the word 'tomorrow' then I'm 24 weeks on Friday. Perfect calculations...phew, sorry to panic you xx
  • Welcome to the Newbies on the thread :)

OK this placenta delivery thing is freaking me out now and so is the perenial massage and I was in no way freaked out by the delivery at all lol.....how on earth do you ask a pervy hubby to massage that wee bit of skin for you, I don't think will be able to do it myself but will have a try if it helps lol :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Can ask why there are so many of you having a GTT test (sorry one of those T's prob mean test)? And what is it for exactly?
I'm wondering if I should been offered it? I never had it with the 1st two and hadn't heard of it until you all mentioned it.

I'm off to see the midwives at my new surgery tomorrow. They are going to talk about my 2 options for hospitals and poss home birth.

Thanks Teenie for thinking of me. I'm getting there. My OH is going to help me on Sat and were both going to get stuck into the rest of the stuff.

It's not unnoticed - they have to check it to make sure it's all there. I asked to see mine - it was quite interesting.

    Possible reasons include:
    • family history of diabetes
    • previous baby of high birth weight
    • high BMI
There are probably other indications too but those are the only ones I can think of. I had it for family history but don't intend to have it this time.

I meant I'd be having mummy cuddles then so wouldn't notice it falling out. Didn't know id need a plan for it. This labour thingy is pretty complicated isn't it. :rotfl:
  • Re: eating in labour - with DD and DS I had a huge bowl of pasta when well into labour (about 3 hours before delivery) and I'm sure that it gave me the energy to get through the birth. With DS i bought lots of chocolate to eat after but hubbie ended up eating it when he got home from the hospital.

oh and the tea and toast after giving birth tastes better than anything!

Welcome to the newbies - I not only like it when we get fresh faces on the thread but also it pushes me a little further up the list ;):p

Alfafa I wouldn't worry about being disorganised - I am coming up to 26 weeks and we have only ordered our pram and have a crib which will go in our room for the first few months. We are hoping to move before bubs is old enough to need their own room. We keep saying we will start getting some more things ticked off the list but can't see that happening before Christmas in all honesty!

To the person asking about handbags - I brought a really nice black one in Primark at the weekend for £8 so might be worth looking there if you don't want to spend much.

Nic The GTT test is to test for Gestational Diabetes. Not everyone has to have it - type 2 diabetes runs in my dads side of the family though and I am overweight and my BMI was just over the cut off point hence why I am having to have one.

I have just mentioned perenial massage to OH and he didn't even bat an eyelid and said that he would do it for me if I need him to. I really don't think anything can phase him - and believe me Ive tried ;)
