I have resorted to making an enormous vat of soup, and doling it out to all moaners with a blanket.

Current soup flavour is carrot and orange, as everyone has had a cold and needed a bit of a vit C boost. I think the next one will be some sort of chicken soup, as I have a load of lovely citrussy home made chicken stock in the fridge.

Ok, but you'd have to put up with OH's moaning, and the toddler who thinks a penny whistle is the best noise he's ever heard - if you can put up with that, then the more bodies the warmer :D
  • Thanks all,

I will try all those lovely ideas and hopefully find something that doesn't make me feel sick :) xx

I made a very nice non-alcoholic mulled wine a few weeks ago, with non-alcoholic red wine from sainsburys (which tastes nothing like real red wine, but isn't too horrible).

Suprisingly when mixed with spices (cloves, cinnamon sticks, a few spoons of sugar and a splash of orange juice) tastes really lovely and almost identical to the real thing!

You can buy the mulled wine spice satchets in the supermarket too which you just heat up in the red wine.

I shall be making some at Xmas. i love mulled wine :T

It made me wonder last night, while I was waiting for Sproglet to stop wriggling enough for me to go to sleep. How many bacteria are going to be on my breasts when I'm busy BFing? I'm certainly not going to boil them  or apply any anti-bacterial solution to them before feeding the monster. So does that mean we risk over protecting children by removing any trace of bacteria, or do we put babies at risk of bacteria by BF?

Random thought I know, but it was quite late at night and I was tired. :D
    Breastmilk is naturally antibacterial :)
When my DD started eating fluff and cat hairs she found on the floor:eek: (at about 7 months) I stopped sterilizing and just rinsed her stuff in boiling water, and as I breastfed and didn't use a dummy my sterilizer was barely used.
This is why I'm not bothering buying a steriliser this time around, they just take up space on the side...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Have to say I did cold sterilising in milton tablets with the last two, but as breastfed until 6 months, did no sterilising until then.

The colic DD2 had had gone by the time sterilising started.

HM you have conjured up a lovely picture of you trying to get your assets in a pan!!

Hngrymummy - the bacteria on your skin are 'good' bacteria and breast feeding helps the baby pick those up so they colonise its skin as well and stop nasty bacteria gaining hold.

Unfortunately my scan today showed the baby is still breech so I've been booked for an ECV tomorrow where one of the midwives will try to physically turn the baby round. Don't know if my husband will be able to come along and don't want to have to go on my own. If this fails, they will book a c section, which I'd really like to avoid, so please send me safe turning vibes for tomorrow!

Good luck Ejecoms! I have my scan next week to establish whether my placenta is still covering my cervix - if it is I may also need a c-section - but I haven't decided which I'd prefer yet! If anyone saw Peep Show on Friday then they'll understand why I'm happy with a c-section - but that's just fiction! ;)
