Snow is quite bad here too, we went into town yesterday, the car in front spun round and DH had to push him out! Only the ring road was clear, the other road were a nightmare - fortunately have a 4x4 as well as people carrier, so we are having a rethink about which car we will use to go to the hospital!! The farmer has been down and cleared the snow off the road but now it's like a sheet of ice! And the snow was coming in over the top of my wellies when I was walking the dogs! Hoping bubs makes an appearance soon, as DH may be laid off work due to the snow :( He was laid off for 2 weeks in January when the snow was bad, but if it co-incided with the birth it would be very handy!!
that would be good. Mine is salaried so spent 7 hours twiddling his tumbs in work while they decided if they are delivering or not. the option was not so he is home

  • No boiling of breasts needed, the natural bacteria on your skin will not harm babe, so long as you wash from time to time!

On the overprotection front, there is a theory that asthma and eczema are worsened by this.

The logistics of getting my bazoomas in a pan to boil was beginning to worry me. And what would I do with sproglet while I was doing it? ;)

I think I'm going to be a terrible mother, as I won't be sterilising everything that baby might touch. Bit of dirt helps build the immune system.

DH is currently working, clearing snow somewhere - that could keep them busy for long enough - that snow is not going off!!!
  • Afternoon all,

I'm early into my second pregnancy and suffering from morning sickness - it's much harder this time as I can't just wallow in self pity and snuggle up in my duvet because I have a one year old to look after! It's the horrible "all day nausea" that I have rather than the "get up in the morning and run to the toilet" kind.

I just wish there was something magic I could drink/eat that would make it go away! Any ideas for a nice hot drink in this cold weather - bearing in mind I have gone off coffee (boo!) and can't drink tea, fruit teas and ginger tea tastes disgusting (to me)??

Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early) :D
  • When my DD started eating fluff and cat hairs she found on the floor:eek: (at about 7 months) I stopped sterilizing and just rinsed her stuff in boiling water, and as I breastfed and didn't use a dummy my sterilizer was barely used.

    Hi Karen. :)

Hot water with a squeeze of lemon/orange/whatever. That does me quite nicely. Or how about some hot squash?

  • Yeah, I'm quite partial to hot Ribena, esp. in this weather, or what about something milky?

    Karen

I had this when I had a cold, it's from a pregnancy website so is fine to drink - the ginger might relieve the sickness?
    Herbal Concoction for colds:
    4 Cloves
    1 teaspoon coriander seeds
a few slices of fresh ginger
    1 pints of water
    a slice of lemon
    honey
Add the spices to the water, bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the lemon and simmer for a further 5 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey. Drink a hot cup of this every 2 hours.

Perhaps have less honey if that might make you feel nauseous?

Hi Karen, you could try hot squash or ribena, hot apple juice with spices in if you're feeling decadent, cup-a-soups, hot honey and lemon, cocoa (not too rich if you make it with water and no sugar if you're feeling icky), or even just a cup of hot water with a couple of slices of lemon in. I hope there's something in there that appeals to you :D

I have resorted to making an enormous vat of soup, and doling it out to all moaners with a blanket - I'm ok, my pregnancy-fuelled internal heating system is still functioning, and I'm going up later to put a duvet under my horse's rug, because she's out in it whatever, poor beastie.

Current soup flavour is carrot and orange, as everyone has had a cold and needed a bit of a vit C boost. I think the next one will be some sort of chicken soup, as I have a load of lovely citrussy home made chicken stock in the fridge.

I'm just having a sit down with a cup of tea, then I'm going to make a start on some christmas stockings for the little ones, because DS's stocking is a rubbish shop bought one, but I'm a bit uninspired at the moment.
