does anyone know what constitutes "several times throughout the day"?

Personally, I would have thought wearing slightly different clothes and being independent was a better option than stubbornly not wearing different clothes and having to rely on someone else ??
I agree. I struggle to do up laces and because of this, wear slippers that have no laces and trainers and shoes with velcro. If I wear shoes with laces, I can do them up - but not properly, so end up doing my shoes up again every hour or so. The only issue I have with this, is the lack of (I've found this, anyway) ladies shoes with velcro.
I remember as a 16 year old, going on a walking trip and having to ask one of the teachers to do up my laces - that was rather embarrassing, in all honesty.:oSealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

have you ever worn vans off the wall shoes, they are just like slippers but very trendy slip ons0 -
As someone who is going to be like this permanantly your son really needs to get a grip on the situation now, perhaps a referal to a counsellor if he is this upset about what type of trousers he can wear?
with the greatest of respect, my son is NOT upset about what type of trousers he can wear
he does NOT need a counsellor - he has had LIFETIMES experience of nerve damage to his arm- you were realtively lucky in that your paralysis was only temporary for 3 months - he has had ALL the nerves in his brachial plexus severed since birth- so the fact that he is as independent as he is is very remarkable and shows great strength of character
her certainly does NOT need " to get a grip on the situation"
for the last time- my son is NOT miffed about wearing trousers that are different
I was TRYING to get information about what constituted several times per day in relation to appealing the DWP's ludicrous decision in agreeing that he needs help to get dressed and then saying he doesn't need it frequently enough to warrant a higher award
I think it is offensive of you to make comments like " if he is this upset about what type of torusers he can wear he needs to see a counsellor"
I have simply TRIED to point out that as a trendy young man he doesn't want to be any different to anyone else - your experience with the bras should help you realise this -
there is nothing wrong with him wanting to be the same as a person who doesn't have a disability
and can I PLEASE point out- in order to QUALIFY for DLA - he doesn't actually HAVE to receive the help - only that he requires it.
once again - my thread was NOT about trousers !0 -

I tried these many, many years ago and they got snagged on an escalator trapping me and making me fall so they might not be great for a VI person.0 -

Kazzah, by needing someone to take your son to the toilet, he is different to anyone else.
If he doesn't mind wearing different trousers, I'm not sure what the issues are? If he can wear different trousers then he won't need the extra help with undoing buttons.
He's not upset about wearing different trousers. He's not miffed about needing to wear different trousers. He doesn't want to be treated differently to anyone else, so therefore shouldn't want to ask for someone to accompany him to the bathroom.
What is it that I'm missing here?
People have tried to help, even if it wasn't your original question. Maybe the decision maker also felt that, with aids, your son could take care of his own toilet needs during the day and that was why they awarded what they did?? Your option is to appeal, but, if your son doesn't mind wearing different trousers, and therefore, can actually take care of his own needs during the day, I'm not sure why you feel he should have been awarded a different amount??There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Getting undressed at night is different to needing help with buttons to get to the toilet on the DLA forms. If your son has no qualms about wearing different trousers then he should do so as it will make his life easier. As a trendy young woman I can't wear shoes with heels, converse all star are about as high as I can get. Sh is roughly the same age as me and wears velcro shoes - not exactly on trend. Lots of people can't wear high fashion for various reasons.0

I had elasticated laces off the OT, but found that slip on shoes was the easiest option for me.
I can't bend to tie laces so liked the look of the laces in Jen's link, but think it might be safer to stick to my slip-on shoesThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

It is pip!
I can now wear daft shoes or so I thought because shoes are only window dressing now but I found transfering harder with daft shoes on and on one occasion I nearly had a fall because of them:eek:
Ive now gone back to my sketchers with the z elastic and my slip on Docs for everyday wear but I might try something diffrent for occasions if one comes up.0 -
