I clocked up quite a few charges on my Halifax current account before i started to work for them part-time in 2004. Would it be wrong for me to try and claim back the charges I recieved, seeing as Halifax now pay my salary? I look forward to hearing your replies!
  • Received offer from Halifax 2nd February which was on the day I was to start court proceedings. Claimed just over £900 (without interest) and they offered just over £800. CAn't say fairer than that as I believe Halifax will have incurred some costs when dealing with my account. Thanks Martin and team for your advice and all those on the forum who were a great help.

I've read other mails stating their local branch staff frowned on them and were very rude for trying to claim money back. I think if you did you'd be sent to Coventry if staff at your branch found out. Risky I say. I'm surprised you got a job at a bank/society if you mismanaged your accounts in the past.

I had about 3 or 4 charges, so i wouldn't say i managed my accounts that badly! I remember at the interview i was worried what they might think but it obviously wasn't a problem.

from my personal experince with the halifax and from what i have read of others I would actually give them a little bit of leighway with the timescales as they seem to make an offer on the day you are due to file a court claim, thus if you have been a bit too fast on filng a claim like i was, your claim would have been setlled and the money in your account rather than drawing it out trhough court with the possibility of loosing at the end
