I am with the Halifax building society and wondered if you can claim charges back from a building society as well as banks. I dont think so as i wrote and asked them to refund a charge last month as i felt it unfair and they wrote back and said no! thanks in advance for any help.0

Yes, just follow the procedure in the article.0 -
I once got charged because I was over my overdraft limit for 3 minutes!! I had wrote a cheque and it was due to come out on the Thursday or Friday. By 8pm Thursday evening it hadn't come out.... I needed a bit of shopping, so I decided that I would spend some of the money that I had left in to cover the cheque as my hubby's wages would be in the following day. I spent about a tenner on a few odds and ends and all was good. The following month (even though it never showed I was overdrawn) I was charged £28, so I phoned them to query it. The informed me that a cheque had been paid on the Thursday and there was no funds to cover it. I queried it with them because I recalled the day, at which point they told me that the cheque had been honoured at midnight on the Thursday/Friday morning. I asked them why my husband's wages hadn't covered the cheque, at which point they told me that the wages don't go in until just after midnight!! I had been charged £28 for 3 minutes and £1.44 overdrawn!! Can't wait to get my hands on the statements now.... this is war!!Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

I need some guidance please
I started my court claim on moneyclaimonline 2 days ao fro £1488.83 (including inertest). Surprise, surprise I’ve just had a phone call from a very nice lady at Halifax offering me £1,253.00 as a ‘goodwill gesture’ (full amount minus interest). I explained that I’d already started court proceedings but she said that that they would not pay my court costs of £120 so I’m unsure what to do.
Should I decline the offer when it arrives in the post and continue to claim through moneyclaimonline for the full amount including interest and my court costs back? I spoke to someone at moneyclaimonline who said Halifax do have to pay my court costs and should I continue with my claim I should be awarded the full amount. Should I take the money they have offered and accept I won’t be getting my £120 + interest back or reject their offer and continue with my claim?
(I also had a letter this morning from Ikano Finance offering me £70 (half of my claim) but I have rejected this and sent my 2nd letter asking for full amount or I will commence court processings)
Thanks0 -
I don't know if I did a silly thing. I wrote to the Halifax wanting my charges back, about £600, they offered me £180, I wrote back saying it wasn't enough and they said that they weren't budging on their offer. Stupidly I took the £180 (scared of ending up with nothing).
Have I really made that much of a mistake and is their anything I can do about the rest of my money???

Contact the bank and explain to them that you gave them enough time in your letters before you issued a court claim. Explain that you have stuck to the timetable you clearly set out in the letters, and will now only settle for the full amount of charges+interest+court fee.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

If you had stuck to your guns, you would have got the whole amount back. If you have signed to accept their offer, there is not a lot you can do now.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Could anyone who has had any form of success - early settlement, full settlement, decisions in court, please give me an idea of the time frame between first letter and receiving the money.
I ask this as I'm aiming to get married next summer and this money (approx £1400 without interest, £1700 with) would come in uselful with the wedding costs0 -
If you get a quick settlement, it could be within a couple of weeks of first asking. If you go to court, and they drag things out, it could be anywhere between 3 to 6 months. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Rex you are truly a fountain of knowledge, thanks.
What are the chances of me getting £1k though? If i'm reclaiming £1400?
I just want enough to either clear my o/d or to pay a chunk off the wedding bills0
