halifax bank charges (merged)
Comments

Hi
After having been trying to reclaim charges for nearly 4 months, and offering the bank (Halifax) a reduced out of court offer than finally came back with an offer of their own and I wanted some advice.
My Original claim was for 2,800 (with £300 interest).
After being refused I offered 2,200 as an out of court settlement.
Halifax has responded by offering me 1,400.
I'd like some advice, my head says take the offer just to get the thing over and done with but my heart says take them to court and get what I am owed.
Can anyone who has been through a similar dilemma give any advice?
How long will it take to finish the case if i go to court?0 -

Ring the number at the top of the letter, generally 0845 or 01977. Ask politely to negotiate the amount, they should ask "how much will you accept"
simply reply "the full amount without interest" or a figure which you have in mind. I received an offer of £3781 this morning, I rang and negotiated £7114 (the full amount).
Good Luck0 -

Refuse their offer send them the letter of refusal. If you dont want to go to court go to the financial ombudsman and report them that way. The bank also gets charged £400 for every complaint recieved i had to go to the financial ombudsman about the same bank as you and guess what i got the lot back it takes around 4 weeks0 -
still having some problem as yesterday, no-one answering the telephone on either of the two 01977 numbers I have. Does anyone else have a different number I can try. I am getting desperate now, as far as I am concerned their 8 week period is up today and I have had enough of them stalling.
Any information much appreciated.
Hi There just got through to Richard at 1:30 give it a go. :T
Been told should hear by early next week, and 'the outcome is normally/usually in favour of the customer'0 -

Obviously, it all depends on your circumstances and the amount involved (both in real and percentage terms) but, personally, I regard any part offer or payment as an attempt to take some of the charges from you for a second time. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

You really should be doing this with paper work as you have no back up if the bank dosnt settle up due to a phone call0 -

Well finally got through to them today. I am claiming on two accounts. first account they said letter had been sent out on 28th June with an offer of £544 (original claim £1138) so this is less than 50% which I am not too happy about.
On the other account they said a letter has been sent out today with an offer of £1417 (initial claim £2860) which again is just about 50%.
I am tempted to accept both just to finish the whole saga, but I am a little disappointed that both claims dont reach 50%.
BUT ultimately I never thought I would get anything back so anything is a bonus:o
What now, do I go back to them and see if they can up it. Can they rescind the offer totally?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
